Well this morning my friend and I went up to the GUM clinic for the usual full screen check up. There has to be a better system. confused
They have a walk in clinic from till We got there just after and took a card. Female 17 and female 18. Last two cards in the box. People who came in after us got turned away. So we waited and waited and waited some more. Finally we were taken at just to fill in the form with details and told to come back at for our appointments.
I'm just wondering how it works in other cities? Can you actually make an appointment rather than going in and hanging around the whole morning? We went back at and didn't get taken till Finally at we left. There surely has to be a more efficient way of getting people seen? I'm wondering if they don't make appointments cause too many people just don't bother to turn up and that's the theory behind a walk in clinic.
Anyone know? dunno

Our local clinic is appointment based,it works there is the usual 20 minute delay.

I could live with 20 minutes... three and a half hours later is a tad excessive. lol
our local run both systems on different days .. the walk in similar to your experience is run twice a week and 3 times a week its appointment based i suppose depends on your needs. i have only had good experiences there and even get my smear done.

 Yep. We can make appointments or take a chance on the walk in clinic. To be honest, I usually do the walk in as I tend to fit check ins around time off so I just put aside a morning & get there early. If I'm in and out, great but to be safe I always have a book or some work to do in my bag in case of waits!
There's a new clinic in central Newcastle that seems to have centralised a lot of the smaller ones around thr city.
You can either book an appointment or choose the walk-in option. I've used both. My appointment was bang on time and they use a clever buzzer system to let you know when it's your turn - a hand-held device that vibrates for you to go upstairs out of the main waiting area.
When I used the walk-in system I was told approximate waiting time as soon as I checked in and offered an appointment on another day/time if that was going to be too long - the whole system seemed very patient-centric and extremely efficient.
Gone are the days that I remember of walking in to have some loud receptionist ask in front of a full waiting room "is it urgent.. what's exactly up with you?"
Well done Newcastle GUM Clinic I say

Wow! That sounds uber efficient! Can you ask them to write to Edinburgh and offer them a field trip please? lol
I like the idea of the buzzer system... that's nice and private!
And how come I always end up with a random 20 something student bloke in there examining my bits?! lol

You're expected to hold it in your hand remember, and not secret it somewhere about your person :rascal:
