Ive been chronically exhausted and stressed for quite some time and now im getting more and more coughs and colds to the point where my cough wont go and i cant sleep. Ive had to take a few days off work and im bored watching daytime tv
For some unexplicable reason, ive just decided to do some ironing and just spent the past hour enjoying it very much.
Also the thought of spending some quality time in the kichen is very appealing and im looking forward to doing something creative this afternoon
Apart from the obvious guys wanking and the girls shopping, what do you like to do out of the ordinary for stress therapy or just to relax?
Nothing help me more than a long soak in a hot bath, preferably steeped in lavender oil or something similarly soothing.
Follow that up with an episode of Columbo and I'm feeling immeasurably better. biggrin
Turn my music up full blast and turn my blow torch on and play with my hobby stuff!
Other than that, go for a long walk......
I suffer terribly from stress, finding ways to keep me from *thinking* and *worrying* about nothing is difficuilt at times. Winding down after a long day is even worse. Seems to be a catch 22 then..
I have found my hobby helps though. I dont have the concentration to read a book anymore (and I miss reading a lot). I used to spend a lot of of my time drawing/painting or doing some craft related activity. Now I have to be careful what I do as I have emotional and stress eczemia, which ends up making me feel very down.
Suppose its about finding something that destresses and relaxes you. If its ironing, I'll send you mine round lol
A nice massage helps a lot after a nice long soak in the bath...

I have a blow torch too, although it is rather small as it's for jewellery making. You make yours sound lethal

We love using massage and music as a relaxing therapy and its great to use our massage couch in our lounge as a means to starting a play session with another couple. Its good to start slowly and gently with a sensual massage.
Plus i (Bob) have helped friends, new and old, with their aches and pains too, its good to be able to help someone relax and find some peace in their mind.

Oooo we should talk!!! smile :) :) :) :)
Mine is a bit of a flame thrower if its turned up high, not used my big girls one yet....cant wait!!!
My small one is called a hothead, other a bethlehem pirhana. Both used for making glass beads, large one for beads, small sculptures, paperweights, marbles etc.
I'd love to have a go at jewellry making, I make the odd thing but nothing I need a torch for.
I find it very relaxing though... so useful to let the mind go blank :) and be creative.

Mine is just an overblown Zippo! I did a silver jewellery making course last year (and part of this, but work got in the way unfortunately). Made several rings for me, plus a couple of bangles for a couple of relatives. Was just starting enamelling when work took over. You're right, it is VERY relaxing, especially at that point where the finishing work reveals the object in its near final glory and you feel very satisfied... almost as good as sex confused:
I will definitely get back to it at some point, the sex, that is.
depends on whats going on really i do like to put my music on and read a book, or put on a favourite dvd to swith mind off.
The best i find to switch brain off to stop me analising everything is to go for a longwalk in the woods, end of last year i got to a point i really was having trouble sleeping and coping with things.
i took the day off donned my walking boots, went about 15 miles before i found a pub and food, then walked back really cleared my head and got my blood pumping round the system.
yes i can think of another way of getting the blood pumping and im working on it lol
Hey Gem, if I was chronically exhausted I wouldn't be doing the ironing! god woman, sit down and put a lavender eye mask on and chill....
I have a mixture of relaxation therapies, it depends on my mood. lol Sometimes, I like a nice hot bath with wine and candles, sometimes I like to lie on my bed with no one in the house, no sound nothing, it's great.
Oh and I quite like the naughtiness of going to bed in the afternoon with Jay shutting the blinds and the door, letting the world go on around you and it's just the two of you there, no kids nothing.. best relaxation ever I reckon! ... then the doorbell normally goes! evil
If I need to relax and unwind I get myself along to a tai chi class. biggrin
I don't ever really relax as such - if I do I can't do it for long.
Usually I'm finding ways of occupying my busy mind and try to focus it on one thing instead of the many paths it likes travelling down simultaneously - which is quite tiring and even annoying at times.
The things I do to 'escape' are play my drums or guitar, read, write a song, go for a cycle or even something as simple as brushing the cat. Of course sex is always good too.

That's a great word, escape, everyone feels like that sometimes don't they? I feel like doing that today.
Miss Kiss is right 'escape' is the word. biggrin One way to escape the everyday stresses and strains of life is to do something that requires 100% concentration. In that way you can push all your other worries to one side for a while. :D :D
I have a 'friend' from SH who is into aromatherapy and reflexology so I go to his to chill out. Well, it's one way to get me into bed, sorry I mean relax! wink

stress is a physical sign of mental fatigue. There is something playing on your mind & this will normally show as disturbed sleep - or lack of rem sleep. So if you r not dreaming ( an affect of rem) then getting this sort of sleep is important. To get there 20 mins gentle excercise and a warm (not hot) shower or bath before u get into bed will help.

 and hello!
Stress is also a sign of Depression... Stress is in everyone's lives but it's how we deal with it that matters, people who are depressed have a low resiliance to stress and therefore do not cope. What I found interesting the other day is that stress can actually cause heart attacks. Very worrying subject I think is stress.
