Why do people post all that "I'm leaving" stuff? If they want to stay in touch with friends they've made, they can inform them privately. Making a big announcement about it could give a negative impression to new people unless it's done tactfully. I mean, if you're going to say "hey, it's been fun but I'm moving on", great, all the best to you, but some of the more petulant departure notices seem to be motivated by sour grapes and designed purely to make people feel bad and/or beg them to stay. That's pretty selfish IMO.

have to agree with you, and it's one of the things that saddens me the most and i've often commented on it.
one that people feel compelled to leave for whatever reason when all too often their love for this site and the people on here is so evident from the effort they made to add to it here.
and two that sometimes ((( and i'll hate meself for saying this later! ;-) ))) it comes across slightly as fishing, for a little ego massage from the replies from mates asking them to stay. i'm not saying all are like that, because i know full well the vast majority are posted for sincere reasons, and the threads are welcomed by members as a way to make a public display of support, but there's lots of other kinda post about that too, that leave only a certain kind of reply open to people if they do choose to reply to that kind of thread at all! .......... not my place to comment or criticise at all, but IMHO etc!
and i'll remember now for once to STFU before i say any more!!! lol

Agree totally, but its the throwing the toys out of the pram syndrome really isnt it? The funniest thing is...if they were at a party and it wasnt the highlight of their evening, would they announce it to the whole room that they were leaving?
It makes me giggle really.

Some people need the closure of saying good bye publicly. It may simply be that they want to burn their bridges, it may also be that they do not want people sending e-mails and pm's asking after them.
Each to his/her own. If you do not enjoy reading the farewells of others, don't read them.

I recall once someone saying about a big spat I had when taking a new job on "well at least he knows your here now!" surprised

I really don't think everyone that says they are leaving the site wants an ego boost.
I myself would say goodbye to you lovely people if I was to leave as common curtasy ( sorry for the poor spelling redface

:D Funnily enough I have JUST got back from having a drink and meal with Harry tonight!!! (cue weird music). He's hale and hearty - following his professional interests with vigour and enthusiasm and has a fantastic aftershave!!
He is touched by the kind thoughts of you lot and says to say he misses you all loads. I will see him again once the countryside goes back to sleep.

Seems Harry O is alive, well and kicking according to Jags. Still he said goodbye in an undramatic way and then went - so good for him.
The rest seem to have disppeared from the earth (or Planet Kinky) - must have got bored!
There are still some luvverly people around here - we shouldn't spend our time wondering where people are - ahem - so I'll stop now.
