i TRY and respect people as much as I can... regardless of their opinion.
I can tell I must have gone wrong somewhere along the lines.. but hey, I'm only human confused
xx
I treat people in a way I would like to be treated.
ahha its turned up lol
treat others with respect till they earn my contempt which hopefully don't happen
takes an awfully large amount of hard work on someones part to earn a little contempt from me.
I'll give freely of my respect to anyone on first contact... as I have no reason to feel otherwise.
I do not expect respect back... I'm not that important, but a chance to prove, should i wish to, would be appreciated.
Respect can be eroded though... and once again buffed to a high shine and glister. Nothing is final in my book... second chances and sliding scales.
Contempt?
No... but i may slide into a tutting indifference.

Everyone deserves an amount of respect......At least untill they display they are not worthy of it....

Faster than a speeding bullet lol
Not as fast as you thought, enough of us saw! lol
my respect to people are in scales from 0-5,when i initially meet someone ill grade them according to my judgement then from there it will either increase or decrease depending on how they conduct themselves, but there are people in my life i.e my parents who i respect regardless...how others respect me is entirely up to them but i always try to work on earning some where necessary
I give respect freely - to all I meet and all I know. But - once that's lost for whatever reason - it has to be earned again! Other wise that respect turns into something else.
Some will never gain it back, but that doesn't stop me being polite if I have to spend time in their company, for example: a work colleague.
I'll like to think I treat others as I want them to treat me...
Hmmm, so lack of respect is contempt these days?
And there was me thinking it was just the absence of respect.
One learns something new everyday.

I'd used up my quota of eye rolling emoticon usage ;)
Contempt:
1. the feeling with which a person regards anything considered mean, vile, or worthless; disdain; scorn.
2. the state of being despised; dishonour; disgrace.
Nope, that doesn't sound like absence of respect to me. That is something that's passive, whereas contempt is something that is active.

An opponent of Batman I seem to recall.
To earn respect you have to give it. I treat everyone I meet with the same respect I would like to be treat with, until they push me too far, then I turn and walk away.
I think you can get your point across without having to belittle people or be discourteous.

Whilst I appreciate what you are saying, can I ask how can you 'grade' someone you've only just met? You can be courteous and respectful in their presence but grading??
(this is a simple question not a dig)
I also treat people the way I wish to be treated, but am generally neutral whe first meeting someone as for me respect needs to be earnt in the same way contempt does. There are very few people in this world that I hold in contempt though, whereas there are a lot of people I respect.

doesnt really matter what answer i make it will still end up in some battle ground,so i exercise my right of no further comment!...but i must admit i dont respect everyone equally
I am fully of the belief that people are generally good minded. I know that having and giving respect is the point at which people should start at.

Like I said above, no dig, no duel I was just curious. wink
I don't feel anyone has to 'earn' respect. I try to respect everyone I meet for their lifestyles, opinions and way they live their own lives. If, however, they do something to hurt me or those I love, that respect goes right out the window and while I can't feel contempt for sometone, my trust in them is gone.
In the exception of those moments when you "meet" someone for the wrong reasons- eg you & yours are almost wiped out because the fuckwit in the car behind was too busy on the phone to see you stop....nope, I'm not gonna respect that person one iota I'm afraid..
but aside from those times, I treat people/things/places with respect. It may be more that I'm treating them respectfully, as is my nature, until they've earned my respect though to be honest. So I guess I treat strangers cautiously, but respectfully. It makes sense in my head :lol2:
As for treating peoples opinions with respect- that's a whole different ball game.
Hitler had opinions I don't respect.
Iris Robinson has opinions I don't respect.
I respect their right to an opinion- but I can't respect them.
This sounds like a Python scene!
I have Always said that respect and good manners along with a sense of humour will get you sex on here quicker than the size of your equipment(thank feck) redface lol
