So you haven't tried the "ooooooh......you have a sexy voice.....are you bisexual?" approach yet then?
Steve

Even better say it the other way round and you won't even complete your sentence!
I have to say, generally I just look to get rid of them and say "As a matter of principle I do not accept unsolicited calls on any subject, I thank you for taking the time to call me, Good bye" then put the phone down without waiting for them to reply. dunno very boring, but it keeps the conversation short.
Although I am going to try SteveG's suggestion, just for the heck of it!
I'd not heard of TPS though, so thank you for that.

Basically if your registered on the TPS then you cant get these marketing calls beacuse the phones simply wont allow ou to get through.

Evidently this isn't true Clare because I am registered on the TPS
Just remember that when your going on at some poor sod at the end of the phone to ask for their manager first and winge at them instead!!!After all the person who's ringing you is just there to make some money,if you winge at the managers they might actually do something about it.

I do remember that, hence me being so polite with the girl that rang. At the point when she said "Don't scream at me!" I hadn't even raised my voice, just allowed some of my frustration to be heard through my voice
We had irate customers all the time and they often used to ring existing customers to see if they wanted something else so your easiest way is to do the TPS,it kicks in in 28 days and then you wont get anymore

Hmmmm I've just checked, and I actually registered with TPS on the 28th April 2004. By my reckoning that's WAY more than 28 days ago!!
Well you need to get in touch with the TPS and double way you can check for certain if your on it is to dial your home number from another phone and put 1840 in your on TPS youll get a message saying thi person does not wish to recieve telemarketing your not on it it'll get through,so then youll know whether to get pissed off at the sales people or the TPS people!!!
But really do try it coz it does work guaranteed!!
Thanks for this thread guys...i'm always getting these sort of calls and i didn't know how to cope but now im going to register with tps and hope that it stops.....but i always get these calls at least once a month from a car credit company that has ads on tv...and it all started 2 years ago when mr hugs just happened to click a link to there website.....he never gave any details of our address or phone or names and within a week we both received letters asking us to pop down to the show room etc....we didn't attend and got phone calls for about a month asking to reattend and we could be driving away the same day with a new or second hand car....
We declined there offer and asked to b taken of there mailling and calling list as we had no jobs and were on state benefits due to illness.....so we could not afford cloths let alone a car loan....so it stopped for about amonth...then the calls started again offering us loans and credit etc.......we moved and changed phone numbers etc.....and within a week of moving i got our first call.......
I asked how they got the number as it was ex directary and we had not handed the number to friends or family yet as we just moved....the lovely asian man could not answer and said he'd remove us.......that was a year ago last month.....i still get the calls and now i shout at them mad .....and say this is harassment and im going to sue.....which they reply we will remove u from our list madame...and hang up......i get the call once a month and i am polite and tell them i will sue etc and they still call :x
So i will join tps today.....thanks for all the advice...i thought i was the only 1 redface

You could always say yes, agree a time for them to call round, ensuring it is at a time when you will definitely not be in. If they call back to say you weren't in, re-arrange the appointment exactly the same way. At some point they may catch on that you will never be available when they call. It will supersize the annoyance of the actual sales agent who has a wasted trip every time!! lol
Mal
cool

ouch! noooooooo mal you can't do that! :lol2:
salesman goes back to sales manager.
"that was an unqualified appointment" says he!
"was it? who booked you it? "
"some telesales twat"
"right"
cue: poor telesales twat gets ripped to bits, possibly has his targets tweaked, and stares redundancy in the face! these guys are ruthless trust me! :lol2:
first rule of telemarketting : your manager is a twat!
second rule of telemarketting : so is the guy you book appointments for!
third rule of telemarketting : you are a know nothing numptie who can be replaced like that!
i get hammered by calls cos we're near the front of the phonebook, but have a touch of sympathy, cos it ain't usually the poor sap on the phones fault half the time. they simply don't have the tools to do the job right more often than not and still have all the pressure on them that trickles down from the top.

Sgt Zulu !! :smug: :smug: :smug: :giggle: :giggle:
I went through a phase of hanging up as soon as they started the sales pitch... after all none of my friends call up and start sentances like a telesales person does..
.. its the most efficient way to get rid of them... you don't have to say anything more than hello.
..These days I am borred so occasionaly waste their time instead..
... havn't had any calls for bloody ages... I think it helps if you are at work late and go out in the evenings... being on dialup used to be the best... they could never get through that way, so they probably deleted my number from their list for being useless.
.. I am waiting for them to use mobile phones more than they already do... that will really anoy me if I get junk txt's and phone calls on that... fortunately it has caller ID
