I did too.
shit, didn't realise he had died, what a legend, hard to accept he's really dead, Pink Floyd have been such a continuous part of my life.

'Time' for me

Although I bought Dark Side when it was first released I wasn't blown away until 4 years later with The Wall, so for me it has to be "Comfortably Numb" first with "Run Like Hell" second followed closely by "Us and Them".
Well i think that would be difficult to say one track, my favourite album is Wish you where here, I even have a gold disc of it.
Theres so many old ones that people have not really heard either.
See Emily play
interstella overdrive
set the controls for the heart of the sun
a sauceful of secrets
arnold layne
careful with that axe eugene
time
one of these days
echoes
us and them
mother
comfortable numb
these are just a few in my mind, I need to turn the cd player on now i think

Snap. I originally had the Columbia half-speed master on vinyl then when Columbia re-released it on 24k gold disk I got that too.
Then of course there's the Mobile Fidelity 24k remasters of Meddle, Dark Side and Wall (double CD) all of which sound absolutely glorious (look good too!).
The Roger Waters' gold disk version of What God Wants sounds pretty scrumptious too.
Edit: Bugger, forgot, I've also got the gold MoFi version of Atom Heart Mother too. Not to mention the SACD 5.1 version of Dark Side (that took some getting used to)

mine was given to me as a wedding presant by my brother when he worked in the industry, and is a true repilica of the original disc given out when they sold X amount of albums. If I'm honest in a fire that would be the first thing out along with me, everything else I can replace.

If I'm honest I'd be there helping you. I hadn't realised you'd meant THAT sort of gold disc. Now I am envious :P
A very, very sad day. Saw Floyd so many times and never tire from listening to them. Bought the records, rocked at the gigs, got the T Shirts and the dream lives on and on and on. R.I.P. Rick, love ya forever.
And no-one sings me lullabies
And no-one makes me close my eyes
And so I throw the windows wide
And call to you across the sky.
(from the song "Echoes" off the album "Meddle")
Echoes
'One of my turns' was the first Floyd song I ever heard, still my favourite!
I was driving home, listening to 'planet rock' when the DJ announced this, he was clearly upset, and played 'great gig in the sky' as a tribute.
A great musician.

I'm too young to be a "Floyd fan" but I do like the wall, animals and dark side of the moon.
The wall being my favourite album though cause of the differing moods in it.

The Wall is an amazing album, especially when you get in and read the lyrics and how it flows.
My first Floyd gig was at earls court on the last day of THE WALL tour, that turned out to be the last time they ever played again with Roger Waters till LIVE8.
I always knew Floyd would probable not tour again but this seals it, but I have some awesome memories of the times I have seen then.

I really, really know sweet F/A about PF. Other than having many memories of chanting "We don't need no education/ hey, teacher, leave those kids alone" as a disgruntled schoolkid, of course.
However, seeing as how they clearly have so many devoted fans with impeccable taste innocent I'd like to give them a go.....before I go to you tube for a taster....
where should I start?
Try starting with the album
Wish You Were Here
Winch: 'Echoes' is a great place to start from 'Meddle' but make sure you have a spare 20 mins plus!
RIP Rick.

You could really confuse yourself and "watch" The Wall the film....lol.

haha indeed but as an intro to Floyd NOOOOO!lol
However you can't really go wrong.
Syd Barrett Floyd 1967-68 is full of surreal whimsy and childlike wonder.
Floyd 1968-73 is experimental, atmospheric, well worth checking out especially Ummagumma, Atom Heart Mother, More and Meddle
Floyd 1973 - 77 is the biggies, Dark Side of The Moon, Wish You Were Here and the highly under-rated but very bleak Animals.
1979 - 1982 is Roger Waters gone mad, compelling but hard going The Wall and The Final Cut.
Floyd from 1987 to present (?) is the Dave Gilmour dominated line-up, The Division Bell is a very fine album.
Rick Wright was a crucial part of all of it except The Final could liken him to the George Harrison of Pink Floyd, everyone goes on about Waters and Gilmour but Rick was always at the heart and soul of the music, playing brilliantly and always creative and inspired.
It's very sad news about his passing away.

:smug: :haha:
I would start with Dark side of the moon and wish you were here.
Any earlier and you might think what the f*** and be put off.
Hope you enjoy :P
May I also suggest a browsing of the live albums P*U*L*S*E and Delicate Sound of Thunder.
PF have a rather good live sound and the shows themselves act like a Greatest Hits so give a good varied selection for the Floyd neophyte to cut their teeth on.
