hi,
we're likely to be taking our first nervous, excited (you bet) steps into swinging by visiting a club for the first time at the weekend and are wondering about safe oral sex.
Giving and receiving blow jobs seems straightforward - condoms. well, apart from the taste that is.
But what about licking a pussy or having your pussy licked. Do people here take precautions with that - dams, film etc?
Does anyone know the level of risk with oral sex in comparison to bareback sex (horrible phrase!)
looking for advice and guidance here, don't want to be fumbling for an answer in the heat of the moment at the weekend, just want to enjoy ourselves as much as possible.
oh, and wish us luck!
going solely from what I’ve read on sti sites for the most common sti's, chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, herpes etc the risk is around the same whether through penetrative or oral, although some other sites say its slightly lower through oral, then theres others that don't even mention a risk though oral sex so its all very muddled and unclear imo, but on the more serious ones like hiv/aids i think the risk becomes significantly lower for contacting through oral sex, but that’s only so if the people involved don't have sores, bleeding gums etc, try doing a google for sti's you'll find loads and some facts are quite scary, one site i found actually said that anyone that uses condoms for penetrative sex and then engages in oral sex without protection is taking just as much of a risk… scary stuff.
Know a little about this, used to go out with a med tech when I lived in yorkshire.
HIV and Hep are the real nasty suckers though none are very nice
HIV is suprisingly delicate and ceases to be become infectious very quickly after exposure to the air (I am unsure of the exact time frame) but once a fluid is dry its pretty safe, also saliva and stomach acid destroys it.
Hep can last for hours outside the body and is far easier to contract via contact.
Also transmission from the mouth to genitals is far less likely than the other way round.
So what you really need to make sure is that you have no open cuts/ulcers inside the mouth when performing oral and that your partner has no obvious cuts/discharges/spots/warts or strange odours on their bits.
Importantly dont brush or floss your teeth immeadiately before oral sex, leave it a bit. If you need to freshen up use a mouthwash, preferably alcohol free antibacterial.
Spitting and rinsing after wards helps.
But at the end of the day its up to people to make their own minds up, I know I have biggrin
Hope this helps
T_cra is pretty much spot on (I have a medical-based degree), although I'd add HPV to that list too (although you can contract that whether you use condoms for penetrative sex, even if warts or sores aren't showing, so thats pretty much the luck of the draw - HPV has been strongly linked with causing cervical cancer)
You're not all that likely to catch much when having oral sex with a female due to the lack of body fluids (yes, I know that there are some, but not to the same amount as it can be when having oral sex with a man) so that is, statistically, safer, but there is still a risk, especially if you have cuts, ulcers and so on in your mouth (as has already been discussed).
In terms of recieving oral sex, the chances of catching anything that way is very minimal (unless the person giving it to you has weeping, open sores), but there still is a risk there... again, there is very litle transfer of bodily fluids - and the less the body fluid transfer the less the chance of catching anything.
Its a tough one really, and a lot of people have different 'rules' regarding what they do to keep themselves safe. Its really up to you guys, I'd suggest some caution, but not to be over-sensitive about potentials really.
Obviously, bareback anal is far more dangerous that having/giving oral sex with a female, but there is always a risk when you're having sexual contact with any unknown, and thats something that you just have to deal with (sorry, sounds harsh!)
have fun though and good luck!
