i was just pondering the term " fuck-buddy"
isnt it just a modern/ Americanised way of describing someone you are having a "fling" or "affair with"........
what do you think?
i think it is............

To me, fuck-buddy implies somebody who you're mostly or completely interested in for just sex. Whilst "fling"/"affair" includes "fuck-buddy" type relationships but also others where the main reason need not be sex.
To me a 'fuck buddy' is someone you are friendly with and just have sex with without the emotional hangups of a full blown relationship.
As much as it describes accurately the type of relationship you have with someone, it sounds a little too derogatory for me. I prefer to use the term 'intimate friend' biggrin

I think 'fuck buddy' began in the American gay community biggrin
'fling'... implies over a short duration of time - having had a fuck-buddy for some 15 years in the past, I don't think 'fling' quite fits
'affair'...to me this implies emotional attachment mixed in there somewhere - also only really applies if at least one person is in an existing relationship
Fuck-Buddy....... IMO a 'gutter type' term. Would never use it personally.
Probably means the same, but I prefer 'Shag-Piece'.

i agree with you there but also i think a fling has a certain amount of emotional attachment too even though it is short lived.

To me it means a person you just meet up with to have sex with, no emotional attachment involved, just pure raunchy sex!
Personally, I hate the word! I could think of a few nicer words to describe it.

A fuck-buddy... a buddy (mate) you happen to fuck.
To me a 'shag-piece' doesn't appear to have any 'mate' status and so suggests something completely different and much more demeaning.

You have such a way with words rolleyes
thanx alot for your input...........
i guess that , having never used the term really myself............ i'll give it a wide berth in future......
however... how many times do you think that you need to have had sex with a person before they qualify to be deemed a person that fits the criterion? or how regular does sex need to be?
I don't like the term fuck buddy, but can't think what term I do use. Probably "a friend I sleep with now and again".
I used to use 'fuck - buddy' as a term for a guy I had regular sex with.
But now I dont like it, I now call him 'my special friend', or alternatively by his real name, after all he is a person.
I've known the guy since I was 16, and been having regular sex with him for 6 years. So special friend just seems to fit better. He's one of my best friends aswell as a sexual partner. But we couldnt work if we made it a one on one relationship.
to me fuck buddie means just someone you have sex with on a regular or semi regular basis
