I've recently placed an ad on the site for the first time. The replies are coming to my ID and many are being trapped by the Junk mail filter. They are usually the triers-on who haven't read the ad properly and send rubbish or offensive replies.
I've just noticed a message saying ' could not be verified by Sender ID'. Apparently Sender ID spots people using a forged email ID which is excellent.
So my question is - instead of replying to some of these guys (which I've been trying to do because of the complaints on SH about not getting replies) should I just delete these mails straight away? Have I risked anything by replying to them?
Jezzay.
Yes - If you have your ad set to anonymous e-mail address, then when you receive a reply,, they will not know the e-mail address they are sending it to.
If you reply to their e-mail - they will know your e-mail address.
Personally, for this reason, I am not a huge fan of the 'send a thanks but no thanks' opinion. I believe you should only reply to those contacts you are interested in having further contact with.
IMOHO -expectations of 'thanks but no thanks' replies are completly unreasonable and purely as a result of bruised, over-inflated egos.

Hmm got to disagree that thanks but no thanks are about over inflated ego's... ask anyone who replies to adds and after a while an over inflated ego is unlikely to be common... more despondancy about what is wrong with you...
However the risk to you by giving out an email is very real in unwanted advances, maybe you could have a account that you use only for the no thanks replies?
By setting your ad to include anonymous emailing you will recieve your replies as PM's on SH thereby containing them all in one place but you will get a notification that PM's are waiting for you to the email account you used when you registered.
I don't like giving out my addy as it then gets added to MSN and that pisses me off!
I'm not 'bouncing' my own thread for any egotistical purpose, honest guv.
But I don't think anybody has picked up on my concern. It's not about answering people in general - it's about the 'SENDER ID not verified' message.
suggestes these particular emails are from people on this site who have 'stolen' or 'forged' an ID. Does anybody know anything about this? Have my replies to them put me at greater risk than normal?
Should I ask Mark maybe?
Jezzay.
How do you know that they came from SH ? I get those kind of emails all the time in all my inboxes.
Just a thought, but this could also be a simple case of someone rather badly trying to hide their true email address... However I would just not reply to anyone with anything non genuine about them, including ID not verified.
I will do some research and see what I can turn up...
Edit: More in depth article one... Still reading
Thanks for looking at this, Tallnhairy. Perhaps I was panicing a bit prematurely. There's just so much stuff going on in cyberspace I don't understand.
