Sender ID - bogus people on SH?

I've recently placed an ad on the site for the first time. The replies are coming to my ID and many are being trapped by the Junk mail filter. They are usually the triers-on who haven't read the ad properly and send rubbish or offensive replies.
I've just noticed a message saying ' could not be verified by Sender ID'. Apparently Sender ID spots people using a forged email ID which is excellent.
So my question is - instead of replying to some of these guys (which I've been trying to do because of the complaints on SH about not getting replies) should I just delete these mails straight away? Have I risked anything by replying to them?
Jezzay.
Yes - If you have your ad set to anonymous e-mail address, then when you receive a reply,, they will not know the e-mail address they are sending it to.
If you reply to their e-mail - they will know your e-mail address.
Personally, for this reason, I am not a huge fan of the 'send a thanks but no thanks' opinion. I believe you should only reply to those contacts you are interested in having further contact with.
IMOHO -expectations of 'thanks but no thanks' replies are completly unreasonable and purely as a result of bruised, over-inflated egos.

Hmm got to disagree that thanks but no thanks are about over inflated ego's... ask anyone who replies to adds and after a while an over inflated ego is unlikely to be common... more despondancy about what is wrong with you...
However the risk to you by giving out an email is very real in unwanted advances, maybe you could have a account that you use only for the no thanks replies?

I do have a separate email and am happy to reply to people whoses messages arrive in the Inbox. My concern is the messages arriving in Junk email to which have attached the specific warning message suggesting they are abusing stolen email IDs. This is my concern and the reason for the posting.

By setting your ad to include anonymous emailing you will recieve your replies as PM's on SH thereby containing them all in one place but you will get a notification that PM's are waiting for you to the email account you used when you registered.
I don't like giving out my addy as it then gets added to MSN and that pisses me off!

good solid advice mate
I'm not 'bouncing' my own thread for any egotistical purpose, honest guv.
But I don't think anybody has picked up on my concern. It's not about answering people in general - it's about the 'SENDER ID not verified' message.
suggestes these particular emails are from people on this site who have 'stolen' or 'forged' an ID. Does anybody know anything about this? Have my replies to them put me at greater risk than normal?
Should I ask Mark maybe?

How do you know that they came from SH ? I get those kind of emails all the time in all my inboxes.
Just a thought, but this could also be a simple case of someone rather badly trying to hide their true email address... However I would just not reply to anyone with anything non genuine about them, including ID not verified.
I will do some research and see what I can turn up...
Edit: More in depth article one... Still reading
Thanks Tallnhairy.

Because they've all got "Re: the title of my ad". Just like the replies that go in the Inbox. And they do refer to the ad. Although one of them simply said : "PISS OFF!"

Hi Jeezay,
From my limited reading on this in the last 30 mins or so I would stick my original advice, just delete them. The system that is adding the warnings is checking the IP of the servers that sent you the mail against a published list of authorised senders for that email idea being, as you say, to spot simple forged 'from' addresses, a crude way over covering who you are.
Equally it seems not to be a perfect system, what is, and can like anything have false positives. Maybe some of the mails were people trying to hide themselves, to protect their anonymity, maybe not. End of the day save yourself the agro, after all you are taking the time to reply where you can, and that more than a lot of people.
As for actual risk, you received an email and the system warned you... as long as you have not given them your bank details I am reasonably sure you will be fine smile
Thanks for looking at this, Tallnhairy. Perhaps I was panicing a bit prematurely. There's just so much stuff going on in cyberspace I don't understand.

Thats what they are ment to do anon meanse they dont know your email, but if you reply they do :-)
The original question...
It depends, " " will decide a message is spam using huristics (key words and/or phrases) and known spam addresses... also if an account has been known to be spam but is not the true senders then it figures its hijacked... I've had "returns... not a valid..." and yet I never sent it, someone has used my name/email to spam others.
AOL is the worst for filtering, as it tends not to put emails in a "spam folder" but bounces them and doesnt let the recipient know they had an email... good if it was spam, but crap if the bounce is baised on huristics or a valid address that falls foul of the name or heading check...
A site such as SH is auto blocked by AOL because it forwards a lot of mails, also because a lot of people put "SH add" or "re-sh" or somesuch combination so any other mails with Sh or swingingheaven or somesuch end up being bounced...AOL use a "if we have more than a few mails with a subject of... we shall count it as spam"
do the same, but send it to the spam folder so at least you recieve it and can add or deny the message sender....
