Sending a free fax via email

Does anyone know if it's possible to send a fax via an email system (ie, without having to buy a fax machine?)
Can anyone point me in the right direction, either on here or by pm?
Thanks

The only way I know is to scan the doc., first then send it as an e-mail attachment.
Will that help you ?

Ahhh, well no, not really - the types of places I currently post to, don't have email - but they do have fax machines.
Thanks anyway x

Thanks Flower, might be worth signing up with, until I can find a free one, thanks

There are free fax programmeds available if you have a google, but winows lso has a fax programme built into it.
You will need to have your computer connected to the phone socket using a normal dial up cable to a dial up modem.
Go to control panel/printers and faxes abd you will find it.

Thanks Sparky!
I can't get it to work, but I'll have another go tonight when I've got more time
You can pick up a fax machine for a few quid on Ebay, it's worth getting one just to save the hassle for the odd times when you do need to send one.
You could ask friends/family if they can send it from work or look out for one of those international phone call shops, they usually have a fax service
Yes it's perfectly possible, try
My ISP even offers that facility as part of my account. Faxes received arrive as TIFF images and to send a fax all you have to do is either email the message or if you want to send an image or Word document etc you just attach it to the email.
Can't say I've ever used it to send though.

Only thing is, that doesn't work if you want to send a fax to a landline number.

Of course it does. The efax provider calls the number on your behalf.

It's not free, though. I'm looking to send around 800 a month, so for it to work I need it to be free.
Also, I will be sending my letters to people who do not have email, so attaching them to an email is not an option.
Ta anyway

You'll be lucky to get a free service that will give you that many faxes a month.
As for the attachment, what I meant was that the service converts the attachment into a form that can be sent to a fax machine, i.e. it converts it into an image.
Ok, thanks guys
In helpful mode...

I don't think you'll beat that for £25.....but they've several more under £50 if it's not up to what you need. Sounds like you need your own as you'll be sending so many anyway.
wink
Good luck.
