SH was running painfully slow from about 15:00 on Friday, it took a lot of time to identify the problem but we isolated it to the database cluster and the only way to resolve it was to restart M/Cluster, in doing that we got everything running ok, but it did have an unfortunate side effect of rolling the site back to how it was at 15:00 on Friday.
As a result we have total roll back with pm's and forum posts missing for the last 10 hours.
So what are we doing about it
We can't recover the data, we have known for a long time that M/Cluster is unstable, so much so that we haven't made any changes to the database structure for 4 months, you may ask why we didn't just move over to something else straight away, the answer is because we couldn't, what we did do was ask lots of questions and start setting up a new server array, its taken a long time to get the existing database working on the new servers but we are nearly there and should be moving over within a few weeks.
I have been sent a PM for a meet and it hasn't arrived!!!!!!!
This was the first one that said they would actually turn up, and you now say the PMs have been lost......nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Two years I have been waiting for this kind of PM and the server has to have gone down now!
Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

PS Sheddy- Someone had to
I'll re-post the suggestion to update the SH home page with a message to warn people that there are problems.
Jags I think there were people (me included) who thought that it was their system. I got the home page and other pages were loading but very slowly - I'm a techy numpty and wouldn't have guessed that it was the server.
To all those about to moanabout missing posts / pms etc.
Just remember there are a lot worse things going on in this world such as starvation, war, poverty etc etc etc.
So to loose 10 hours of posts etc to mcluster, is it really such a big deal?
Off to look at my mail box, and perv for missing pms.
