Duncan, a very well thought out and considered reply, and I thank you for it. I may not agree with all of it, but respect the views expressed.
I do agree that publication is down to popular demand, and that would make it seem that the majority agree with the opinions of the press. I for one have had personal experience of it being quite the other way around.
The press are quite capable these days of moulding personal opinion. you just need to look at the hysteria created after Dunblane!
I wont bore the arse off of everyone with details here, but the end result, was caused by a sensationalist press, milking it for all it was worth. If anyone had bothered to read the results of the enquiry, they would have seen that all the necessary laws were already in place.
At the beginning of that inquiry the public opinion poles were quite sensible and pretty much against a ban, on the whole, by the time certain gutter publications had finished their witch hunt ................. well its history.
Do not underestimate the press's ability to mould peoples views and opinions, far too many people read something in the papers and automatically assume its true, when in actual fact it has been distorted so much that it no longer resembles even a fraction of the truth.
My point was that IF, and this is a very satirical “IF”, the press where to represent the swinging community in a totally honest and unbiased way, I still think that a vast percentage of the population would at the very least, want to give it a go.
The population of the UK is around 60million.
lets say that the young and very old reduce those sexually active to 40 million
This site has 1,154,911 members
Shall we say only 1 million are active, but some are couples. lets say 8 in 30 are couples.
Lets say 1.3 million people are on this site. They may not all meeting, but they are thinking!
That could mean that 1 in 30 people who are sexually active are on this site. Up that by the number of other sites and how normal is swinging?

jeez this was all of 4 years ago! time flies when you are not doing much other than logging into web sites.
Well I suppose its limited to people's own abilities at dealing with quantities of people, and the energy required in the relationships. With some needing to be intense and all involving and others being of a more transient nature.
Also advanced sexual activities tends to attract people with the characteristics of outsiders. Those who have developed their abilities outside of the mainstream of normal life. So the so called 'normal' person does not usually comprehend such things in quite the same way.
Its true the press have probably improved the turnover in clubs and sales outlets. But this is in the 'soft' sex element. the more advanced practices probably still remain within a select coterie.
So there will always be a distinction between fashionable temporary 'soft' play and those whio dedicate their lives to a certain practise.

Are you saying that swingers are trend setting and others may follow later. I do not feel like a trend setter. I do feel that I do not have to follow the crowd, I do my own thing.
I think things for myself and do not believe everything I am told.
I do not consider myself advanced, just me....or an orgy to be advanced, just a choice.
I was surprised that the ratio was so low and if we add in those who just nip around to their friend as we did when we were younger; who know what the ratio may be. After all we don't talk about it do we?

Its an interesting point.
to be honest, if I get chatting to virtual vanilla friends, i always tell them that I am a member here.
And yes, the responses are what you have said. However, that said, the peeps that that I have told that actually come and pay a visit to the cafe do see a different side and some have actually stayed.
Just goes to show, that old adage happens time and time again - Never judge a book by its cover ....................... (or what the press insinuate)

Much easier to be open with virtual friends, vanilla or otherwise.
Plim wink
also people will do what is easy to do, if the resources to do it are also easy to get. so if something becomes popular then its cheaper to kit oneself out, and suddenly there is a 'scene' you can experience. if its just a passing fashion, then it will be replaced. the press will reflect this and/or promote it. they can also kill a fashion off, having a variety of others waiting on standby. and generally most of the population don't mind being in the mainstream of reacting to this.

True, most find it easy sitting, no making waves....but do they play around, is that swinging, just not open
Well I suppose that if you have to go out of your way to do something, you can call it want you want. But if everyone else is doing it it doesn't need a name.
