I have just got an invitation to a friend’s marriage rededication party. It got me thinking.
The wife had come to me with a story;
‘She had known that her husband had been unfaithful, but did nothing about it. Then one day she had come home to find him in bed with a younger woman, a much younger woman. That was when she stormed out of the house, to see her friend, my wife. She found me instead.’
Anyway, last month, the husband found his young woman in bed with a guy, and he ended up talking to the police. The wife came to his rescue, and took him home. Now they have decided to end the separation, hence, retaking the vows and the party.
The whole thing has started me thinking again. Why did she wait until she found them in bed? She said she knew he was shagging. She could smell her, found lipstick on his clothes, but it was not until she knew that he knew she knew that she did anything.
In others words she kicked him out and he went to his mistress for a reason other than her finding out he was ‘fucking a tart young enough to be his daughter’. What was that reason?
Was it she needed absolute proof, or was it that she could live with the knowledge, but not the embracement, that came with doing nothing when faced with others knowing she knew.
PS
No way am I going to ask her!
