Read this today.

Probably the saddest part of it all is it doesn't really suprise me, although the school uniform bit was laughable. Very few schools nowadays insist on uniform which is a shame I reckon.
I reckon that its all a gimmick that will make these people a fair amount of money as it becomes a "must have" item for todays street cred seekers and wanna be gangsta's. I'd question the level of protection an item costing a mere £65 will provide or am I just being cynical.
Will it lead to more knife assaults as many people think they can up their cred without actually causing life threatening damage to another person??
If only everyone would switch to Norwegian wool. The world could be a much cosier place
I agreed this seems too gimmicky to be a serious item of protection.
Is the world going mad? I sometimes wonder.
"There is a real feeling among kids that the streets are not safe," said Barry Samms of Essex-based firm Bladerunner.

And we thought we'd try and cash in on peoples paranoia. wink biggrin
"If we can make it trendy to protect yourself then we're doing something to help."
Plans for stab-proof school uniforms are thought to be on the drawing board.

How about giving all their profits to a campaign that makes kids aware of the damage a knife can do to another person? Somehow I don't think that's going to happen. rolleyes
Or am I just very cynical?

And for one so young as well!!
Nah it's cashing in no matter how they wish to wrap it up.
Damn you Lairdy! you pipped me to the post (literally! lol ).. I was going to comment on this myself. How ridiculous eh? Jay reckons it'll only exasperate the problem rather than making it better - ie., open target if protected?
This is actually more serious than it looks.
Kevlar is NOT knife proof!
I know it sounds daft, but take it from someone who spent nearly 20 years in the industry, Kevlar will stop bullets, but it will not stop knives
It has taken many years to develop the "knife proof vest" and trust me, Kevlar has very little to do with it.
My fear here is that kids will get these garments and get that " I'm invincible " feeling, and tragedy is just around the corner.
I do note that the article describes the garments as " Slash Proof" this is true but i submit, to a teenager, or an unsuspecting parent, fatally misleading.
how many of us would draw the distinction between "slash proof" and "stab proof" ? unless initiated into the science?
The very thought of this kind of stuff going on sale to the public at large sends shivers down my spine and the people responsible should be brought to account 'BEFORE' someone gets killed.

I'm hearing you Pete. This is surely a road leading to pain and danger. I personally think this sort of 'exploitation' is insidious and needs putting a stop too. Ok, i know that somewhere, someone is going to say freedom of choice - in this instance bo**ox to that!
Of course this is purely my own opinion.
