I enjoy the odd bijou drinkette in the comfort pf my own home and I think that being able to get three bottles of drinkable vino for a £10'er is pretty good value, or even, 45 cans of lager/cider for £20 if that takes your fancy.
I believe that with the reduction of taxation on smokes that the Gov't (bless em) are just trying to get the cash other ways and that supermarket booze is in the front line. Lets face it the days of the 'local' boozer are long gone for most.
I say leave me too being able to buy cheap booze please!
I say this after being at a wedding at the weekend and buying coke at £2:50 a half and Fosters at £$:50 !! a pint ffs!! oh yeah and pinot grigio at £2:80 a glass
It must be really hard to legislate to stop binge drinking and allow 'normal' drinking.
I do feel that selling to someone who is obviously drunk (pub, offy or supermarket) should result in the immediate loss of the license.
I don't drink much myself but i have bought loads in the past for BBQs or Christmas, and I've wondered if that will become impossible soon. Like buying Paracetamol. You can only buy 16 at a time. Bit of a pointless rule since 8 will kill you if you are unlucky.

I think your probably on the button with this foxy. I too am an occasional drinker rather than regulsr. Maybe the way in which we can purchase booze needs be looked at rather than the cost?

Don't blame you Winey, the pace of life, the people, everything is just lovely abroad.
I suppose if you live there maybe it isn't as enjoyable as visiting? Either way I wish I was right beside Winey right now! cool

Only for wine, it was Dave's ships company summer ball on Saturday, will say it was an open bar so we didn't actually buy any drink but the order was rung up on the till none the less and a bottle of bulmer's cider and a white wine (chardonnay) and lemonade was , thank god we didn't have to pay as wouldn't have been half as drunk as we were lol
but agree there aren't many pleasures left in life, but a nice bottle of wine or 2 on a friday/saturday night is something we look forward to as we can't afford to go out all the time..

I make my own wine occasionally - sometimes it's a bit rough. But I've had some delicious results - and the best thing is you get at least a gallon at a time. And if you are able to get a hedge-row harvest, all you pay for is the sugar, yeast and a few cheap 'chemicals'.

I think this would be the way forward for me. I'm on a very tight budget at the moment and I do class alcohol as a treat and not a need. Currently I manage on one box of red a month, which is equivalent to around per week on drinks. If this continued to go up and say became £20 I couldn't justify it and would make for the home made kit.
Anyone got a spare demi jon?

You're not far - I can lend you the makings. You have to pick your own brambles though biggrin

What, Officer? Me, Officer? Dogging - never heard of it. I was picking these elderberries honest, Officer. :D
I dont think buying anything at the supermarkets or anywhere else for that matter should be put up to try and stop people buying it...wether it be alkihol or cigs.
I agree that there should be a restriction on how much you can buy per day/week.
I went to supermarket other week and wanted to stock up on some pop and there was a limit on how many I could buy as it was on promotion....so restrictions on pop but no beer confused: :?:
It also gets my goat that when out drinking it costs more for pop than in does larger...that really pisses me off

this jerks me off too mad there is a way around that though
When I take my kids out I buy them all whisky and coke in half pint glasses biggrin the difference is I ask the bar people to put the whisky in over the coke and then take the first couple of sips of the drink thus making things ok. I find this especially good as it seems for some strange reason the kids sleep well after a night out :D
Don't drink. Don't care.
