YOu do have my sympathy......makes you feel really awful, down and total crap does tonsillitis. Hope you feel better soon kiss
I was taken to hospital straight from my GP's surgery once with tonsillitis, when I got there they couldnt take them out because I was too ill!! confused :?
Hate to tell you this - but my dad keeps being diagnosed with tonsilitis. He had his tonsils removed as a child, so I have no idea how he can still have tonsilitis - but he does. Badly.
thanks Fb..yeah, I know that people can still get it without tonsils. I have to take the risk tho' as I have had it 6+ times in the last 12 months and antibiotics make me very ill and give me terrible thrush... so I suffer through 7-10 days of tonsillitis far too often for my liking. It affects my sex life for one thing rolleyes
They grow back sometimes confused

spooky i was just coming here to say i have tonsillitis and it's really bad it affecting my ablity to breath
As for getting tonsillitis after you have had them removed it's because they sometimes don't get all of your tonsils unless you have your adenoids removed at the same time

They also stop infection getting any further ie onto the chest doctors do not like taking them out these days

I'm going to have to disagree with you there they are more like to take out for reacurring tonsillits then give anti-biotics
if its a one of the yes they will give Anti-B's but if you have one or more occurances of tonsillits a year then they would look to remove them
the main reason a hospital wouldn't take them out is for finacial reasons

I've had tonsillitis 4 times in a year, once it even put me in hostpital because I was too ill to take medication so had to spend a weekend on a drip.
None of the doctors I have seen have wanted to remove my tonsils because they believe the operation as an adult is to much worse than suffering the tonsillitus sad

 I'm waiting to have mine removed, and i know two other if not more hospitals were they are removing tonsilis left right and center
I would say your doctors are doing you a disservce because even the BMJ reports that doctors agree that removal of tonsilis if you get repeated attacks is better then treatment with anti biotic.
they do say five or more attacks a year but i don't get that many.
Also have you ask to have them remove because it's your choice, you can have it done on the NHS or Private.
After repeated attacks of tonsillitis, the tonsils become scarred and remain enlarged. They may even keep infection trapped inside. In this state, the tonsils are no longer good at fighting infection and are best removed.
More tonsillitis may cause an abscess to form underneath one of the tonsils. This is called a quinsy and can be very painful
