Site areas visability and other stuff

Have noticed a lot of people coming on to the munch thread and saying they only just found out about the munch. Predominantly these seem to be Chat room users. We have also encountered site members who have been on the site over a year and did not know there was a forum.
Some ideas from me.
1: Change the main page layout so somewhere on it it has 3 large banners like adverts, Chatroom, Forum. These need to be big enough not to be un-noticeable.
2: Introduce a news feature into the chat room. This could be used for all sorts of information. Various ways to implement it: News appears in the chat window on first log in, a side tab of news you could open or close, an information ticker (Can hear people screaming how do I turn that off already lol )
3: On sign up ask new members if they want to be informed of events in their area with an option to chose mileage or entire country. Any suitable events posted would produce a PM with the thread title and link.
Seems admin often ask us for thoughts on their ideas so I thought maybe a few of my own they may like to look at :twisted:

Not sure about the chat news one - its good but I can see so many people moaning about it and wanting to turn it off lol :lol:

Oooh not to mention the Cafe people that don't have enough time to trawl through the meet up sections.
Yeh yeh yeh, it's in bold in your sig, it's at the top of the LMU forums - but please bear in mind I'm soooooooooo crap with keeping up with the forums, posts, what's happening etc.
It was only when a friend PMd me the link that it finally hit home that's it's something that we could well be able to do! Not only that, something right up our street, that we would just love to attend.
Next dilemma - so embarrassed, not to mention fed up, of having to pull out of events cos something else crops up, after putting out names down for something, that we've got to the point now of maybe putting our names down later on (kind of within a fortnight) - then it's a bonus for us if we get the ok, rather than taking spaces from people that are more 'definite' than us.
Personally I would like to see munches more prominent somehow, whether it be a separate tab, or an advertised link I don't know dunno
SH to me, has always been a very social place to be, munches have always been a core event to promote that community atmosphere. Anything that would extend the reach of a munch advertisement across the site would be a bonus in my eyes biggrin

Yes, on my screen though when I log in I have to scroll down to see it. It was not until earlier today when I checked out the homepage that I actually noticed it. How long has it been there? I think there is too much on the home page, needs simplifying.
Agree with your comments Missy :D When I think about it the forum gets used by what % of the site users? I know its very small like maybe 2-3% and we can get 100-200 for a munch. What could we get if more people knew about events by better forum promotion or event promotion? There is of course new problems to be found with that :twisted: like if you could get 400 for a munch where would you hold it and who the hell would host one lol
