Those parents (and teachers) amongst us will be painfully aware that the school summer hols are almost upon us. :scared:
I know in my house it will be a battle of wills between us and our daughter as we try to drag her away from the telly/PC/Wii and attempt to turn her to something more wholesome and productive.
Does anyone have any ideas for activities that might be deemed acceptable by today's 10-going-on-16 year olds, without costing the earth or getting us in trouble for child exploitation?
yeah dont tell me about it lol
well both my kids are lucky as they are going to community centre during the holidays for 3 hours
and thats 3 hours of loverly peace and quiet awwww
they do all sorts of stuff there djay ing street dancing and more so im lucky and it only costs for 3 hours
have you thought of hooking up with other mothers/fathers seeing if they are interested in going somewhere as a group of friends to somewhere nice as i did last 6 week holidays
I have had two books for years now, always handy when hols come around they are called
Days out Atlas
1001 Days out with your kids
Plus I always check internet for local groups sports clubs that hold fun days activites.
The local police also use to run a fun week of mixed activites I don't know if it was a national thing or just local to us.
There is often organised activities going on at local parks near here too.
All these groups were very resonable in costs considering the price of child care and some are free
Hope that gives you some ideas
Google your local council web site, and normally there is something days out for kids, or kids hol events......
Thanks folks.... especially the person who PM'd me - twice! biggrin
I knew I could rely on you lot for some help!
does you local council offer free swimming for school kids (also available for pensioners) not sure if its just a wale's initiative. but is very handy for the odd few days when still at home esp helpful if they are of the age they can go on their own perhaps with a group of pals.. also helpful if they are young and parents have to accompany them

Now you mention it I think I heard somewhere that our council are one of the few who do. I'll have to check that one out. Thanks!
I don't know where you are but I found this... might be of some use! wink

Failing that... loaf of bread to your local park that has a pond and feed the ducks! Cheap and cheerful and something I still love doing. lol

Good thought but there's only one place that has "ducks" round here and the council have decided to charge an hour to park anywhere near. rolleyes
*Ducks = pigeons and seagulls.
