Morning...
I'm not sure if im allowed to post asking about this so sorry ops if so.
Im looking for advice from people who have changed there ISP and gone with the sky package... or thought about it as to whether you have/would of benefitted from it or not.
I wanna cut down on stuff and paying all the 3 seperate is costing me approx £75 - £80 a month. I've done a quick workout going off all the same things i have with sky now.. and it would cut down to approx £50 a month!!!
Any advice appreiated, thanks
Lil xx
Morning Lilmiss,
We went from Virgin to Sky about 6 months ago and we've really noticed a differencce - not in a good way.
I don't know how much we're spending (I let Her deal with this one as she's much better bargaining than me!) but it's less than what you're paying right now. We've got the full Sky+ package including movies with evening and weekend calls but only 6Mb broadband (cos we're so far from the exchange). It's ok but Virgin was much better.
We USED to get the full Virgin package (for a tiny bit more) but we had MUCH faster broadband - 20Mb vs 6Mb and the V+ box is a million times better than the Sky+ box. (More recording channels and time and the GUI is better too)
Go Virgin with optical broadband if you can get it. Sky sucks botty.
But thats just my opinion!
*Him*
I went the other way and recently dumped Virgin for Sky. The change over was a pain in the ass though. Had to get BT in to connect my phone line ( £125 for 10 munites work the robbing bastards mad ) then the Sky+ box and dish was installed next day. I went into hospital then thinking the rest would all be sorted by the time I came out but no.
The phone took another 2 weeks to convert to Sky from BT so I was only getting free evening and weekends not unlimited free calls and the wireless router has been a nightmare! First of all, the leads weren't long enough to reach my pc ( it has to be plugged into the pc the first time you use it ) I bought a new adsl cable which wasn't much use as the router needed to be closer to the phone box so I had to buy an ethernet cable ( still not arrived rolleyes ) and 2 wireless adapters ( one for lappy and one for son's pc in his room ) Son's got his working ok but the speed is so slow.
As for the bills, it's going to be a bit heavy for the first 3 months as I'm paying off the ridiculous charge from BT plus their a month line rental and I have the tv package with the movies so in all it's going to be the same as I was paying Virgin for now. Hopefully when things settle down and I ditch the movies ( only got them while I'm on the sick ) I should only be paying a month all in which is better than the £65-70 bills I was getting from Virgin.
I'm going to give it the time of my minimum contract with BT to see if things are better, if not I might consider shopping around again.
This is 1 of the things that's putting me off... all the cock ups and messing about. I couldn't be without my net for 2 weeks.
I don't have sky movies or sport so thats what would keep it alot cheaper for me.. Have done in the past, but paid for something i never used.. so refuse to now.
I used to have phone broadband and tv from virgin and was always fine....have only ever had the slowest virgin broadband but its fine for surfing and the odd doanload.....heard lots of bad things about skys broadband slowin down when its busy....

I didn't go without my net at all as it takes 30 days to cancel with Virgin ( why? dunno ) so while I couldn't set the wireless router up, I still had my virgin modem working.
I got the movies deal only so I could have the Sky+ box free instead of paying £99 for it, can cancel movies at any time though and the installation was only £30.
It IS a lot of pissing around to change over but you have to look into everything to decide whether it's better to change or stay.
If you're with Virgin now, ring them and ask them what's the best deal they can give you. They'll do their best to keep you as a customer. I had the 3 for £30 deal ( phone, broadband and tv ) but by the time you added phone calls and vat my bills were always over £65 a month! Try asking how much unlimited calls are, virgin+ box etc and see what they say. biggrin

Don't know if it's been pointed out as there is too much to read, but if you go to Sky for your phone you still have to pay BT for the line rental seperately.

Yes, i know. I have already included that in the approx £50 it will reduce to. I have also included so much for calls made out of the free period.
I have Sky+ and wouldn't be without it, I abs love it!... but however, I wouldn't touch Sky broadband again if they paid me!. We were on the Max 18 month ago and it was terrible, dropping connection never being able to connect.
We're on Orange now and have not had a bit of bother.
I see your point in the seperate payments, if we total ours my monthly outgoing is approx which is madness but I get quality for that.
I have been looking at the Tiscali deal with everything all in, phone, BB and TV but I need to know more about that before I switch.
Im with orange, and have been for the last 4 yrs... it was wanadoo & freeserve b4 orange took it over. I've never had any issues with them.. I think in 4 yrs ive only not been able to connect 3 times, which is pretty good.
it's a horrible decision to make Lilmiss, it's a case of better the devil you know because you get tied in for 12 months at least.. I don't envy you right now, good luck x
hi little miss
i used to have virgin broadband and tiscali for my line & rental and the normal sky.
i decided to combine them all into the sky package and pay my line rental to sky which you can do.
i found it quite easy and seemless to transfer the broadband using a mac code. i got it off virgin after a lot of hassle and phone calls to them.
i gave it to sky and they transfered me on the day they quoted.
i don't have any problems with sky broadband itself, only with the online email facility which sometimes doesn't let you access it due to it has crashed but i don't have the problems crashing or getting kicked off that i was having on virgin.
it has worked out saving me around £30 a month having them combined rather than paying seperate bills.
N. B. with the sky (being a bit of a tech head), i know they are lauching a new downloadable music system similar and cheaper to itunes and also video on demand service is due to be launched shortly which is similar to the one that virgin (virgin on demand) offer as well as a few other things they have in the pipeline..

Well in that case have you considered the tiscali package? unlimited anytime calls, free line rental, 8mb unlimited broadband, and basic TV package all for £25 a month and nothing to BT
I have a foot in both camps........ lol
I have Sky for TV and Virgin for phone and BB.....
the biggest difference in broadband between virgin and most of the other providers.... is that because virgin use there own cable line, what they advertise is what you get...... so 10mb for example means 10mb
orange, tiscali and sky for example use BT lines, which means it is a wise idea to check how far you are away from your nearest exchange..... the further you are away, the slower the maximum speed that can be achieved....
so no point in for example paying for a 10mb connection if the maximum you can achieve is 4 mb

Don't do it!!!
Tiscali are pants. I went to them and couldnt get away quick enough. They use BT for the line & it was so so so so slow........ some days I couldnt get connection at all.
Virgin for BB & Phone. Sky for TV is the best option IMHO.
Good luck passionkiss

Doesn’t matter who you go with someone will have a bad experience with them, also it depends how you use the internet i.e. downloading etc, can’t comment on anyone else but we’ve been with tiscali for 6 months now with no problems, also been with BT and pipex in the past, we cannot get cable in this area so we cant compare adsl to cable, but the price tempted us and so far so good.

I think this is what it comes down to.... you can do all the research, some people are going to have had bad experiences whoever you talk to...... if you ask me about AOL/Talk Talk you would hear nothing but :censored: :censored: :censored: :censored: from me....
can i ask what you have at the moment? that way we might be able to give you some other options.... but I am with blonde on this one..... this best thing for me was Sky for tv, and Virgin for the phone and the broadband.....
Im currently with Sky for tv.. Bt for fone and Orange for internet.
I have just been having a look at this on virgin too..4 for £40.

But thats only available till 30th sept.
not sure if sky works the same way but when i thought about moving as i was paying to much i phoned virgin up and said i wasnt happy with the bills and that sky or such n such did this offer which was a better deal, they did me a deal which more than halved the cost of the bill and i didnt have to move
If they value the custom they should do a deal with you?
i pay £33 per month fees for 10 meg bb xl tv package (145 channels) and telephone line and talk unlimited anytime and get 2 free mobile numbers to ring
We've always been with Virgin (for about 10 years) and have never had any problems.
Talk Talk in my opinion are pants. My nan changed over to them and it was terrible, she paid the £70 disconnection charge rather than paying the £70 they wanted to charge them for moving house!. Their customer service is appuling, my nan couldn't understand what they were saying to her so I had to speak to them...I wouldn't even go with them for free!
Got the full Sky+ package and have BB with Sky as well....
BB is brilliant.....Never slow.......Never lost a connection and for £10 a month quite reasonable..
we have sky for TV with sky plus, we didnt like the set up of Virgin TV
We have BB with Virgin you can actually just have the BB without the phone, we cancelled the phone due to us having mobile contracts and cold callers.
Ive not heard many people give Virgin a bad word when it comes to BB
