So hard to post.

Why do I find it so hard to post nowadays? I want to and I get halfway through a response and then sort of freeze and end up giving up. strange really as when I first started posting I felt really intimidated for some reason, dont really know why but I guess if you didn't quite get your posts right the forum could come across as a bear pit. Then, when I got my posting confidence up I multiple posted regularly every day. Now I just freeze. Frustrating.

Why worry about it being a bear pit? At the end of the day it's just words on a screen, people are bound to have different opinions and with the lack of emotion words on the internet carry the words themselves can end up being a bit strong. Don't worry about it, keep on posting. smile

Thanks for some lovely comments guys, that's kind. I do enjoy posting when I do and I do really enjoy reading posts that you lot in here make too. Think some might just be getting the wrong end of the stick a little. I 'used' to, when I first started posting, think that the forums were a bear pit but after a while I learned to just get on with it.
As for posts just being words on a screen? Well I've never really subscribed to that idea. Reason being is that what you read can have a profound effect on your mood so even though they maybe just words by anonymous people they can have a real life/time effect on people. Especially if your on the end of some vitriol and most of us have been I'm sure at some point or another. Conversely seeing good things that entertain you and make you smile or think and enjoy can have a positive effect on your mood directly affecting how your day goes.
I sort of wish the forums were integrated once again though as I found the diversity of posts enjoyable and a positive thing whereas with them being sectioned off into there appropriate pigeon holes it tends to polarise the posters into those areas. Seems to me that someone who posts primarily in the C&A section might just post on cafe topics in they were not distinct from each other as they are now. I enjoyed the melting pot of mixed forum as the diversity between one thread and the next in itself was interesting and enjoyable.
Maybe it would be worth mixing up the C&A threads with the Cafe threads just for the hell o fit. I'm sure the moderators wouldn't really mind smile

As for the home owning thread? Hilarious, although I should of bought a hard hat! One of the many times body language was sadly not available to my detriment lol.
Might try and find that thread and read it for the cringeworthyiness - Mind you I might not as I cant do the search thing on here never have been able to. I try to search and end up with every post from 2006 to now to look through and there probably aint enough daylight left in my life to accomplish it.

Haha, this is what I mean. Not so much that they're meaningless, just that a lot of the emotion and tone of what's being said can be lost because it's just words on a screen, no body language or emotion otherwise. :P

I've always enjoyed Lost's posts and have been tempted on numerous occasions to challenge some.
Sometimes it's better to sit back rather than post a reply without thinking ( trust me I've learned that )
What sometimes may appear funny in your reply may infact offend others.

I also haven't been posting anywhere near as much as I used to. To be honest I haven't been doing anything as much as I used to. I rarely log into chat lately either but I do come into the forums most days to have a read.
There just doesn't seem to be anything worth debating and when ive tried to put a topic on which i think maybe worthy of debate, people seem to just agree! I just can't be arsed with the new 'nicer' forum!! Don't get me wrong, I don't miss the pure nastiness that there used to be, however I do miss some of the characters, a bit of good old banter and flirtiness!

Just write the first thing that pops into yer head.....well not if you're thinkin' blow jobs maybe, well there again bollocks is a common subject here. I just get it out..bit like doggin'...then just wait for all the abuse to come hurling at me for bein' stoopid or causing offence (hope not)or just for responding without really reading the initial post properly in the first place even.

Firstly losty I am blaming someone else for intriguing me to look at the forums from afar after keeping away from SH for the last few months.
Now I find myself reading the forums every few days offline just to see what's new.
Secondly I am blaming you. lol

I felt impelled by you to respond actually sign into SH just to respond to your thread.
As I remember the time you were a gobby git in the forums in the nicest possible way of course. wink

I understand what you are saying but I think a bear pit only happens if you allow others to have an impact on how you are feeling or let them change your mood. So stop being a bear and get posting. Although at times I sat here thinking what the heck is old losty on about today, as some of your threads it has to be said were insane lol. I still always read what you had to say with interest. So forgave the odd mad posting. kiss

I used to post too, not great amounts but on the odd lighthearted thread.
I guess you just sort of get out the habbit, the less you post the less you can be bothered to even add the odd wry comment to a thread.
I used to find myself doing the same thing as Lost, start a reply then lose it half way and just delete.
Ohhh look I managed to get all the way through this one :small-print:

I do the same Lost. I find most forums I use follow a kind of trend. Join, love it. Post a bit, take offence or someone does to you over minor issue. Invent imaginary forum nemesis 's lol

begin to feel like you cant really be arsed any more. Think what keeps us coming back here is its one of the only places the subject matter can be discussed and the first place we discussed it.

I could have written that myself! I havent posted in aeons, much for the reasons above, but i found i still log on occasionally to see whos here and what the 'craic' is....its kind of like popping home for a brief spell, to see the olds, then back out on your merry way in the world again.
