We can talk to people day by day either in the written form or on the phone or hear a voice on the radio, often I conjure up an image of what they might look like, I know I am not alone when I do this. As I recently found out when on cam and another forumite saw me and said "blimey that is what you look like, after your 100000 vote thread I imagined you to be a nerd looking person."rotflmao:rotflmao: However they might look? lol
Have you even spoken to someone then seen what they look like and been pleased or disappointed that your image of them has changed?
I think the telephone voice in particular is the one which causes us to conjure up an image, and, like most of us, I've been miles off with my expectations when actually meeting someone. To say I've been disappointed might only apply in respect of business aquaintances, where the telephone flirting seems totally inappropriate when you actually meet the person. I meet strangers regularly on the back of a telephone call, and I'm almost always surprised, one way or the other, when we meet.
On a bright note I did see regular forumite, the lovely pebble, on cam, for the first time last night. That was not surprising, but a very pleasant experience. lol

I'm intrigued now as to what you look like
Yes, someone at work. I knew what his role was and the fact he was quite an important fella. When he walked up to me an introduced himself I had to stop myself asking if he really was who he said he was :lol2:

can confirm your defiantly not nerdy and nor are you your profile age .......much younger IMO
You do get an image of people in your head when in chat too. There have been quite a few surprises when I've met people at socials, etc. Because most people know what I look like, I get loads of people coming up to me and throwing their arms round me. It can be a bit awkward as it feels like I'm supposed to recognise them too (some people like to play 'guess who' but if all you've ever seen is type you've got no chance! When they reveal who they are, sometimes I am pleasantly surprised, sometimes I prefer the image from my head lol Never disappointed though, just because you may not find them attractive, they are still the same person that you've been having a laugh with for a while.

Why was that?
I often find getting to know somebody online is fragmented... you get their text, their pictures, their image on camera, their voice, all at different points and different combinations... and to put everything together, like when meeting someone in the flesh, yes it can be surprising. Voices can sometimes be more alienating/a deal-breaker for me than looks. My favourite moment is when I finally get to see a person I've been talking to a lot and I am fond of and find them to be gorgeous! But as Fun said I recover quickly if they're not lol Always a happy occasion when putting a face to an online persona.
