So, what''s with the apostrophes?

Are they breeding? Surely I can't be the only person to have noticed that one apostrophe in a thread title turns into several?
Is it secret plot? Could it be that all the stray apostrophes unused in G.C.S.E students work are finding their way here? Are they here to find social acceptance unavailable to them in a vanilla world?
Should we be informing these guys?

Is anyone else as perplexed as I am by this?
Now I know I only put one apostrophe in the title.....lets see what happens :scared:
They were on special offer and we decided to buy them in bulk, turns out that they have a short shelf life and need to be used up quickly smile
So, why do I only get a measly one extra then? Miss Kitty got about three.....The Phote thread got a gazillion (and two) extra- and I get one.
It's blatant favouritism I tell ya.

<answer mode="boring">Methinks it's the exact opposite, they weren't escaped. Time for an SQL recode perchance?</answer>
 cool :jagsatwork:

What thread is this from???
I hope this wasn't a dig at me?? lol I'm terrible for my apostropes! i use them all the time  All I can remember is that you do the 'belonging to' ... ie., something belonging to winchwench is winchwench's.
Then there is the apostrophe s's... when the word ends in S anyway and something belongs to the S... am I rambling?
Oh dear, way too many bacardi's this evening I'm sure! rotflmao drinkies
I think they must be breeding.... I only put one on mine...

ps, is there any merlot left honey????? hope you'''''''''''''ve saved me a glass!!

Miss K- plenty! I asked a friend who was in France last week to bring me back a 3litre box.....he did....along with a 5 litre one too  Mind you, he has such a huge thing for me (no tittering at the back) that I'm sure he'd have bought back the Eiffel Tower if I'd asked!
Mar- it's down to my observation of what happens in the thread titles hun- it doesn't happen in the thread itself! And some swine in admin multiplied my apostrophes in an attempt to make me look insane last night loon I fixed it & put the one back in, now theres two again!
I kept trying to edit them out of a thread title last week, the bloody things! I know I like apostrophes (used correctly) but not that much!

lol you're in good company on here Nola!
Apostrophe buffs - help me with this one lol
A student asked if the plural of zoo should be zoo's.
I told him that zoo is short for zoological gardens, so strictly speaking both zoo' and zoo's should have the apostrophe, to denote missing letters.
However, as "zoo" has come into common parlance now, the plural might be correct as "zoos"
I said I'd get back to him...
Can you help me before Monday?
If he wants the plural of zoological gardens, he'd be correct. However, I'd go with 'zoos'.
Ta
Did anyone click the link I posted?
It was for the "Apostrophe Protection Society!"
No kidding lol
