Hi Brigantine, welcome to the forums.
As for the socials, all the ones I have been to have catered for all ages and it has made absolutely no difference if you are in your 20's, your 40's or your 60's. We have ran a number of munches and have first timers, experienced and all levels in between and had guests from all age groups coming along. That is the good thing about socials, it makes no difference about your age or your experience as you are only there for a good old natter and to put some faces to names.
Personally, I would get your names down for one and see how it goes. The most you can lose is a couple of hours of your time if you dont enjoy it, but you could end up having a fantastic time!
Go for it

I am sure that NWC (up ^^^^ there) will confirm my maturity to you.
To quote a famous cliche of SH:- "Age is but a number" so dont worry on that point.
We are all the same age here = young at heart.
As for being "First timers, well we have all been there, done it and got the tea-shirt.
My advice is is like that of NWC, get your name down for a social (Munch) when one comes up and have a chat, enjoy yourselves and make some new friends.
Welcome to the site and the forums. Have fun and do not be afraid to ask questions.
All the best.

I went to my first social this weekend and I can vouch for the fact that everyone was really nice, friendly and there was a wide range of ages represented..really, it's just a question of showing up and chatting and seeing how it goes..
