Some contraceptive advice

Now I know this is super personal - but judging by the other discussion, that doesn't seem to bother people here much! I was just wondering whether any women on here would be willing to tell me if they have tried the contraceptive implant. I've been on the Pill for years and am feeling a bit nervous about breast cancer (esp as I started my period when I was 11!).
Has anyone else ever tried the implant? Would really love to hear some first hand experiences of its use... Thanks very much x
if you are talking about the "coil" you might want to read this thread on that first:

Thanks but it's not actually the coil. It's a little match length implant that goes in the arm and lasts about 3 months. Anyone tried it?
Hi Poinella, I had the Implanon fitted about a year ago and have found it be absolutely fantastic. My peiods stopped completely after about two months and apart from a small weight gain (about 5 lbs) I did not have any other symptoms what so ever. Before having this I used the three monthly injection (cant remember the name now) and again was very well using that.
Having the implanon fitted was a little uncomfortable and my arm was bruised for days but it was not and never has given me any pain. You cant see the implant which is in my left arm, just above elbow, unless you actually move the skin around.
I will also say that this las two months my periods have just gone mad. I am having very irregular spotting. It is very light and hardly noticable, but it is enough to stop me playing. I went to the clinic and they told me it was normal and because I had no problems previously, it will settle down again and the spotting should stop. I have been going through a very stressfull time and the Doctor did say that this would not be helping the situation.
I do know that others on here have had it fitted and had problems with mood swings and other symptoms often associated with both the combined and single doesage pills. Me, well I am always a bad tempered cow, so no difference there then lol
Would I have it done again? If you'd asked a month ago I would have said Definately but the spotting is getting me down a bit at the moment so I am going to see how it goes over the next month and then make a decision on whether to have it removed. Oh yes, it actually lasts for three years, its the injection which last three months. Mine is the single implant (they have now withdrawn the fan shapped one which lasted five years).
Hi Poinella, a friend of mine used it. She had 5 little match stick like implants on her upper left arm, looked lik a fan shape. You didn't notice them though unless she pressed the skin on top of them. They never bothered her and she has been using them for 7 or 8 years now.

I, unfortunetly had the Implanon taken out after 7 yrs before i killed some1. It didnt agree with me...gave me terrible mood swings, depression... the weight pilled on.
I wouldnt advise any1 to try it
I have never tried the implant - but Im on the injection and I love it (some people dont agree with it though) - its progesterone (thats probably spelt wrong) only.. so less chance of breast cancer but still provides the extra protection from cervical cancer (I think.. from what I can remember the nurse telling me).
1 injection every 3 months.. great for my bad memeory!

biggrin
I have been on Implanon since October last year and I've found it really good biggrin I did find that the first month I was on it was worrying as I had my period but I was on much longer than usual (about 9 days, as opposed to the 3 I tended to have while I was on the Pill - and I have tried both sorts of Pill too lol)
But things quickly calmed down and now I rarely bleed at all. I haven't had any other side-effects such as moodiness or weight-gain.

Thanks ladies, I really appreciate you takeing the time to replt to my question. It seem sthat it's worth a bit of research and possibly a try as it's so person-specific that it has to be trial and error. The bonus I hear is that as soonas you take it out, your body goes back to nromal. I will definitely chat to my doctor about it - he's just a bit rubbish and doesn't take my concerns about the pill very seriously. need to arm myself with research!
