Okay, odd I know but doing a project and need some ideas for a presentation soundtrack.
Can anyone think of any songs that have literary connotations?
I've thought of Kate Bush - Wuthering Heights and The Beatles - Paperback Writer.
Any more?

Books that have been made into films often have very good theme tunes.
Ladies in Lavender for example.
I'll think about this and come back.
Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde: The Damned
lp
Books, plays, anything literary.
Cheers for the ideas so far.
Romeo & Juliette: Dire Straights (never heard of them myself)

Must they be 'popular' songs? Coz if not, there are songs that might do from Oliver! and Pickwick (where 'If I Ruled the World' comes from!) for Dickens, My Fair Lady for Shaw, and Kiss Me Kate has songs such as 'Brush up your Shakespeare' ...

Okay, I've gone for:
The Beatles: Paperback Writer
Elvis Costello: Every Day (I write the book)
Stereophonics: Mr. Writer
Speech Debelle: Speech Therapy
Deep Blue Something: Breakfast at Tiffany's
Prince: The Ballad of Dorothy Parker (it would have been unthinkable for me not to get a Prince song in there somewhere!)
David Bowie: 1984
The Divine Comedy: Lucy (it's a Wordsworth poem)
Belle & Sebastian: Wrapped Up in Books
Sting: Sister Moon (with lines from Sonnet 130)
The Killers: Romeo & Juliet (the Dire Straits cover)
The Divine Comedy: The Book Lovers
Natasha Bedingfield: Unwritten
Kate Bush: Wuthering Heights
Cheers for all the suggestions - I've had fun looking them all up.

You don't know
What we can find
Why don't you come with me little girl
On a magic carpet ride
You don't know what we can see
Why don't you tell your dreams to me
Fantasy will set you free
Now THAT'S literature
Should be the Swinging Heaven theme song.... post your ideas on another thread.
