Ok, smack me... I'll put on my kevlar underwear lol
I havn't posted on here for ages then come along and post a thread that has feck all to do with swinging... redface
Well, apart from the fact it's the PC I use to access the site wink
I need a copy of the Recovery Disk for a Philips Freeline MT2100 PC..
My machine writes a recovery DVD but does not finalise the session for some reason, hence it is useless.
It is NOT downloadable from anywhere, so don't bother looking, thanks.
Dixons and PC World are less than helpful. banghead
So, I can only hope that sometime, in between perving, shagging or just plain hanging around on here, someone can run one off for me.
Ta....
Best thing to do, is to ring the Philips helpline and they should be able to send it to you for free.
Same thing happned with my Compaq last year and I called Compaq and they did that for me, and cost nothing.

Sorry Mate, Philips say it is a Dixons/PC World issue. Philips made the machines for Dixons group and all support must go through them.
mad
Pity, its a good spec machine.

If you really need help and can't get any try google answers some of the people there seem to work wonders at finding out stuff. And if knowone knows you get your money back.
If you hace teh certificate of Authenticity, which shold be on the side, Then all you really need is a copy of a Windows XP OEM and it will install. This is also legal as the certificate is the important thing. Don't get in touch with Microsoft as tehy will be no help at all but this is a method I have used many times to restore computers.

Thanks NWC...
Malky63... nice idea and would work, if the version that is stored on the "non Dos" partition of the machine didn't also include the special drivers for the TV reciever card and other "special hardware" as well as licensed versions on Cyberlink TV and DVD software and so on..
The recovery disk and the "non Dos" partition are the only source of these.
Currently investigating a Linux boot system to try and get the data off the Non Dos partition.
Probably miles off the mark here and if so I apologise, but is your hard drive partitioned with a C drive and probably an E drive with the relevent drivers?
If so when you reinstall windows delete and format the Cdrive partition and reinstall windows onto that and when its done all your drivers will still be on the E drive. Just re-install from there. I had to do that recently.
If I'm talking Bowlarks I apologise!

Sorry, Bowlarks (like the expression btw), it's more complicated than simple drive partitions.. the OS recovery is stored on a partition that is not readable by DOS (Windows) or Linux. Trying FreeBSD next.
Re-install windows xp from a normal cd using your own CoA, if you remove the PC case and get part no. / manufacturer codes for the various parts ie. TV cards u will probably find that the parts are all fairly standard chipsets and easy to aquire drivers for.
Ie. TV Tuner may be a Haupage
Sound card a Soundmax
Mainboard a SiS Chipset etc. etc.
So all is not lost, if you get stuck go back to part codes and im sure all will be fine....
As to software you may require im sure if you ask around many people have demo versions and free versions (most DVDs come with free players now) that you can have..
Hope this helps
