Spell Check.

I know were all adults rolleyes

but........ I can`t be the only one who is crap at spelling!! lol

. I always preview any posts or PM before sending them to try and check the spelling etc. I was thinking tho that it would be really useful to have a spell check facility. What are your thoughts?.

Yes it would help!
We all make mistakes, (especially me!) but I'm very pedantic when it comes to spelling and grammar and certain things really annoy me!
My biggest pet hate is:
'I brought a new dress' rather than 'I bought a new dress',
But others include....
Your rather than you are or vice versa
Their rather than there or they're (they are)
oooo even worse- should of, could of, would of etc...
instead of should've , could've, would've- in full it's should have, could have, would have.... the apostrophe shows the missed out 'ha' from the 'have'
that one really annoys me for some reason!
I don't know why I don't like it, as my writing is always full of mistakes, certain things that i'm always getting wrong, like apostrophe esses! ss's's's'!
Ooo one more- when people go on about being 'proffessional' so many times I want to write and say 'sure you're not a 'professional?'
Deary me- I'm sad and need a life!
But yes please to spell check!

There are lots of us who are the same - I've been told off/moaned at for correcting though, so I do it far less now than I used to.

oh funny that neither am i............... :lol: :lol: :lol: although i am really hopeless at spelling and apostrofies and such like ( i no i spelt it wrong) i spell things pretty much how i say them unless the keyboard plying silly beggers or my white finger playing up evil

Spelling mistakes are one of our pet hates also. Fair enough the odd mistake in personal text, but when it's a "professional" document ie a shop sign, notice, form etc it's even more annoying because somebody has been paid to copy-check these things and isn't doing their job properly. Mr F works for the NHS and recently each one of their fleet of 500 or so vehicles has been given a vehicle defects pad. I believe about 2000 of these pads have been produced, and on every form the driver has to record the vehicle's "milage"! I'd be bloody embarrassed if something like that went out from my department. I also received an application form from a major national company with four mistakes on it. I wasn't really interested in the job, so I returned it with the mistakes underlined and wrote at the bottom "2 out of 10 for spelling, see me after school" Needless to say, I've haven't heard from them yet! lol

I have returned letters my children brought home from school, with the mistakes underlined or highlighted. I also send letters back to our school secretary if there are mistakes in them.

ooo that really annoys me! Although I don't think I'd be arsed to write to them lol!
One thing I know i'm bad for when typing is leaving the start of new sentences and 'i' lower case- because i can't be arsed to press the shift button!
I still have a wee rage to myself every time I see 'brought' though- just saw it in another thread!

I'm not as picky as I used to be, which is a good job really as my spelling & grammar are on their way downhill- fast!
It does incense me though when people who really should be able to spell, can't. FB mentioned teachers quite rightly, but a while ago I saw a glaring grammatical error in The Times FFS! What next, a Sun reporter who can't spell "boobs?"

Another common mistake is 'definitely'. Some people insist on spelling it 'definately' confused

...my pet hate is 'with regardsto' - that s that often creeps in changing the meaning altogether. The countless business letters I see this on.....businesses should know better

I hate
- apostrophes everywhere where they shouldn't be - I hate this more than if someone has left them out altogether.
less annoying
- interchanging "I" and "me" - such as "he gave a gift to John and I" (should be "me")
or: "he is as bad as me" - should be "I" (the "am" is implied)
but - although I was lucky enough to have had an old fashioned education, and therefore know this suff, my typing is terrible - so I still make mistakes lol

I can spell (generally) but I can't type.
Put it this way - the sentence above got backspaced and corrected at least 6 times. :lol2:
In my job I have to write (type) the word DEFINITION about 150 times a day and I always - flaming ALWAYS - spell it DEFINTION. With the middle 'I' missing. I won't put an autocorrect into Word cos I am trying to learn to get it right.
Another bug-bear of mine is ETH - I keep putting it in for THE, but it's a real word ffs. So the spell-checker in Word won't flag it up.
