Has anyone else been avidly parking their bums on the sofa at 8pm every night to watch Springwatch?
Apart from the bonus of looking at Kate Humble sillyhwoar: it has to be my favourite programmes on the TV right now.
Spring itself makes me very happy, new life and all that.
The only downside is the fact that about 30 to 40 young Starlings are screeching for food very early every morning. But even they are cute.
Oh and don't get me started on the baby Blue Tits being fed by their parents. :inlove:
So have you been watching and have you witnessed any spring like happenings in your garden?
'He' had 14 frogs the other day, but they all seem to have legged it lol
I had a baby blue tit fly into my living room on Saturday. It came in through the french doors and circled the room twice before settling on my DVD collection. My cat who was very sick, came alive and lept from my lap and was busy stalking the bird. I didn't know whether to help the bird or get rid of the cat.
I chucked the cat out and gathered the poor little thing in my hands and walked it back into the garden and set it free. biggrin :D
I haven't been watching it, but just love this time of year :bounce: Got a springwatch at work...
You go and park the car and the walk to work is nothing but a load of insults and abuse being yelled at you until you get in the office confused
First the swallows up on the wire - I'm nowhere near their bluddy nest and they're squarking and swooping about, don't even think they've layed any bluddy eggs yet and they've started getting all lairy
The blue tits - oh cute little things aren't they ....... NOT  mouths beaks like sewers they have. Go past their nest and then you get to the talking bush
On closer inspection, the talking bush actually has a blue tit parent in it yelling at you to bugger off
Mums doing laps of the barn with a bright green caterpiller in it's beak, waiting for you to go, the caterpiller is dizzy, disorientated, feeling queasy and extremely ill from the height, wanting to just be killed. The kids are in a crack in the concrete shouting and bawling to be fed - gotta be the most undiscreet birds I've seen there :lol2: so noisy! And dad, as I said was in the middle of a bush doing a ventriloquist act...... I s'pose a talking bush is a tad more daunting than a tiny blue tit trying to tell you to clear off lol
Absolutely love it :bounce:
Haven't seen the hawks yet, had 3 last year..... but have a horrible feeling, they drove out the barn owl sad
Awww and the swallows last year, had their flying lesson. So up they went onto the telephone wire, just outside the office, all small cute and fuzzy :inlove: But it was a bit windy and one blew off!!! rotflmao Bluddy quick flying lesson he had, v. quick learner :rotflmao:
Certainly gives me the gist of how Gulliver felt, being surrounded and hassled by all these small things  It all makes me feel like a right clodhopper :?
Oh I do love this time of year :inlove:
Missy!!!!!!! rotflmao
I just have visions of you clutching a bag and looking all stressed and scared after being confronted with an angry bird wherever you turn!
You are pure gold.

Bet the frogs heard about the goldfish being bartered for sex  bolt
Well as ever there is a pecking order on display. Bill Oddie seems to accept Kate with a grudging attitude. Kate is impetuous, eager and enthusiastic, but wary of upsetting Bill. maybe they should just have a good scrap and see who gets the most bite marks.
We seem to get one or two frightfully restrained jokes about the abilities of animals to fuck, kill and eat each other.
I'm not sure I would want to upset Simon King. He seems like a man poised to explode at some point in his life. All those hours watching all that killing and fucking, Well he does get out, which accounts for his weird suntan, maybe he ought to stay in with a good bottle of plonk and a wicked lady.
Oh sorry are we here for the small furry things?

Are you sure that the Goldfish weren't battered cause the frogs had a chip on their shoulders, because no one would kiss them.
DD wink
Foxes in Weegie-land are my favourite! I've got a friend there who has them in his garden regularly and it's great to watch them through the patio windows.
Springwatch is so good but I have loads of animals and birds right outside my window. Rabbits galore, squirrels have been spotted, great big collared doves cooing and fluffing up their chests, blackbirds being very noisy and hedgehogs ambling around the place like Great Uncle Bulgaria...blind and bumbling!
The ducks last night from Islay were so funny... that change of direction from sea to inland lake was hysterical and watching the ducklings trying to 1) clamber up the steep vertical slope and 2) keep up with mum and dad on the lake had me in tears of laughter.
I stopped recently at Annandale Water Service Station on the M74 and had chaffinches eating out of my hand and standing on my table waiting for food and get heckled and harassed by two hungry ducks under my table!
Good for the soul.

I'd swap them for the 2 seagulls nesting on next doors chimney! Give it a few weeks and we won't be allowed in our garden because the little rats will start to walk along the roof ridge and we'll get dived on and pelted to keep us away from them. mad
The only other sign I've seen of spring arriving is that some unknown animal has been leaving some extremely smelly excrement on our back lawn along with a number of dead mice. Oh I love spring. cool

Yep....
dog thinks it`s a cat and is happily teaching baby bird to fly quicker.... biggrin
We live just by the New Forest so every time of year is a treat. The gorse bushes have recently exploded in vivid yellow flowers and the whole forest smells of coconut. There are numerous gorgeous foals who can't make all four legs go in the same direction, calves with huge brown eyes and wet pink noses, ducklings and cygnets on the ponds and lakes, and fawns hiding in the undergrowth - I could go on and on and on!!!

Do you know what??! It really is that gorgeous - we moved here from a grotty little London flat which overlooked another grotty London flat. Now we watch the deer eat our rose bushes in the morning (we buy the cheap plants deliberately!). And yes, you can live with us! lol

Oh I love the smell of gorse - it's undescribable, gorgeous.
And I found the most brilliant thing so I could have gorse smells all the year through :bounce: In John Lewis they do gorse flavoured candles!!!! :bounce: They're wonderful, especially in winter, gives you an early flavour of spring cool
Not sure if they've got em in now, but they deffo did around xmas time 8-) Need to go and have a look again 8-)

I'll get onto it- as soon as the feckin sun comes back out!
On a slightly more serious note- does anyone have any ideas on how to deter woodpigeons? There are gazillions of 'em around gere- and they're crapping all over my deck mad

A cat???? lol
Well the weather was glorious over the weekend. I had to scarrify the lawn which was knackering. But made all the more pleasant by the bumble bees busy gathering nectar, the new family of baby Sparrows and being able to pick some Carnations from the garden to put in a vase (mrs Kiss' job! lol).
Springwatch is back on tonight! :thrilled:
The avian invasion of my house continues.
On Sunday a pidgeon invaded my home. In through the french doors and perched on a shelf. It took me 10 minutes to guide the blighter out without damaged fixtures and fittings and then 30 minutes to clean up the shit it had left behind.
I am considering getting a gun to stop these feathered invaders wink biggrin
