The escalation of violence is directly as a result of the increasing availability of firearms. countries.

So who's to blame for the high increase in knife orientated violence dunno
Sheffield I suppose rolleyes
Sabatier maybe? Or do we blame the celebrity tv chefs for wielding knives in front of us on a daily basis?
eg I fancied doing a Delia one night but instead went and knifed a pensioner etc.
Better idea....
Lay the blame at the feet of the person who commits the crime...
Now there's a novelty..

I have to totally agree here. Too many excuses for bad/violent majority of people including kids know right from wrong no matter how or where they were brought up/ what theyve seen on television or who they hang around with.
louise xx
All these arguments about choice and freedom, statistics etc. Have all been considered by perpetrator and victim alike.
They mean nothing when someone close to you is senselessly killed. A life lost, when 30 years ago, it might only have been a black eye.

Interesting to note that was no comment about the greatly reduced incidence of armed crime in US States where concealed carry by private individuals is now permitted.

As in Texas.

I mean recently, there has been :
*Poor Rhys Jones in the car park of that pub in Liverpool
*A copper was stabbed by a man who he'd seen one night on the Tyne bridge in Newcastle walking in the middle of the road. The copper had a stab proof vest on though
*That poor 23 year old lad who has just died this morning from horrific injuries after being beaten up in Sunderland
*A lad that was stabbed in Elswick area of Newcastle
*That hell's Angel bloke who was shot dead on his bike on the motorway!!!
*Two doormen who were shot in Liverpool
*The lass who was stabbed in wallsend area of Newcastle who had a beautiful young baby
I mean, thats to name but a few in the last couple of weeks that we know of that's been in the news locally and nationally.
This never used to happen in recent years, well not as bad. U'd only hear of maybe 1 murder, or attempted murder, a day at the most!
Miss Cream xxx

Is it really any different to how it ever was though. Just over 10 years ago, when I was living in the West End of Newcastle, there were several equally shocking instances happened within a short time of each other....
- A baby was murdered by parents in the Arthers(?sp) Hill area.
- Wesley Neely was abducted, abused and mudered, in the same area
- A student was stabbed on his way home from a night out, in the same area.
- A man was found murdered in a high rise flat, in the same area.
- A friend had a gun pulled on her whilst walking through Elswick.
- A homeless man was murdered in a back alley.
- Another homeless man was murdered in the city centre.
- About a year later a schoolgirl was murdered in her home, in the Arthers Hill Area.
All of these things happened over a year or so period, all in about a 1 or 2 square mile of each other.
If anything, i feel safer in this area now than I did 10 years ago (hmm, OK, maybe not Elswick lol).
Half of the kids I was at school with in the 90's carried knifes or razor blades, again it's nothing new. The newspaper I was reading today made a reference to Manchester trying to get rid of it's 90's nickname of "Gunchester", so even gun crime isn't a new phenonomem(?sp).
A girl in my year at school was put in hospital with a broken jaw, after being "jumped on" in the playground. Another girl was hospitalised after being assaulted after school by another girl in our year group. A couple of years later a lad was punched to death in a playground fight.
We used to hang around on the streets 15 years ago, sometimes with bottles of cider. We didn't cause any trouble, but in hindsight we probably seemed rowdy and intimidating (we even wore hooded tops back then lol). I don't see any more groups of kids hanging about now than I did back then...........the difference is I'm a grown up now, and I don't know who the groups of kids are and I'm being brainwashed by the media into thinking they are just waiting to Happpy Slap me.

Why look at evidence when knee jerk prejudice will do ?? rolleyes
Lets not disprove my prejudices with mere facts.
prejudices
1 Lets keep guns and knives off the street.
2 Lets not arms all Police Officers.
3 Lets hang a few villains.
