(<--- Sometimes gets broody. Remembers to read this thread whenever I get the crazy idea that I'd like to have children one day.)
Sorry I couldn't add anything constructive - I hope your sister-in-law heals well.
Congratulations on becoming an Aunty!
If they were anywhere else I'd advise something like Vaseline to stop the skin from drying out and causing the stitches to pull though not sure if it would work 'down there' but I don't see why not.
An old remedy that works a treat is a salt bath. Believe me, when your stitches are in a rather delicate area, this is absolute heaven! It also helps to keep the area clean. When my eldest was born the midwives used to keep sanitary towels in the freezer ( ) which is a blessed relief for a short time ubtil they start to thaw :giggle: and you have to be careful the stitches don't catch on the fabric. I'd stick with the salt bath. wink
Congrats to your sis on her new arrival, Auntie Varca :giggle:
Congratulation on becoming an aunty..I became a great Aunty a few weeks ago
Arnica gel and tablets are meant to be good, reduce's bruising
:
Ice pops.
After I had stitches, the midwife told me to wrap an ice pop in tissue and 'apply' that to the area. The cold is heavenly.
I hope the lightweights that are crying in the waxing thread are reading this! rotflmao
wink
As said before, salt baths, cleanliness, ice (obviously cubes are not so good lol) the best thing i found was the old original pea bag as its more ameniable.
A rubber ring is fantastic if too sore to sit lol
Jacuzzi bath (if she has one) is one of the best things for healling as it stimulates the circulation (again she wont want to sit on a vent and is not advised)
If she can possibly get away without wearing a pad - air is also good and less chances of the stitches catching.
The other thing i found as a good tip - omg the wee stings like a fooker  A bowl of ice or ice water kept next to the toilet with a really cold flannel for dabbing
 But i would still rather have a child than wax :giggle:
Congrats to the new mum and you as auntie wink

I had stiches with my first and the nurse advised me to put a few drops of Tea Tree oil in the bath... Make sure it's not too hot as well :lol2:
It helps to ensure that infections are kept at bay smile
Ooohhh congratulations at becoming an auntie kiss
>hijack:::

::::end hijack<
Ooohhh LP Definately :rascal:
Definitely the salt bath is the way to go. Like everyone else has already said, it aids healing 'down there' and the warmth of the bath will also help to soothe.
Another thing that was suggested to me after I had my first and had a few stitches was when I needed to go to the loo for a 'number 1', to haev a jug of warm water to pour over my bits as I was peeing, as it can sting something rotten (but then I would imagine she knows that already). Best to sit as far back on the loo to do it, otherwise you end up with water all over the floor!!!
Hope it helps, and many congratulations on becoming an Aunty, I really envy you, because I seriously doubt I'm ever going to become one - think the next baby I'm gonna ever be able to hold is going to be my grandchildren!!!
Lavendar tends to be a better oil in baths when you have an open wound as its not as astringent and also has very good healing, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, there are lots of oils that pregnant ladies should not use, this would also stand for breast-feeding ladies too.
If in doubt, Lavender is well tested and is considered one of the safest for mother and child, I will not go down the scentific route with regards to the different types, but will say - stick to a well known and trusted brand as lavenders etc can vary greatly with their content.
I will now go on to explain how to use essential oils in a bath - max 8-12 drops - but for healing with a wound i would advice max 4-6 drops. Most people will just sprinkle the oil on the water - as you will know oil and water do not mix - this leaves the raw oil just floating on the top.
Emulsifiers (the thing that mixes the oil and water) are not as readily available as oils sold in various shops and can be quite expensive when not from a specialist aromatherapy centre. A quick, easy and safe way to mix is a couple of teaspoons of milk in a small container (full fat is better), add the oil and keep mixing until you see the oil has dissolved, then add this to the bath water and mix around - Relax and Enjoy wink
what about guys with stitches lol

Morning Varca, Congratulations on being an Aunty.
Would like to echo the guidance of the rest of the crew. Once she is a little less sore she should do the old pelvic floor excersies to tichten things up a little and help to prevent the unexpected little dribbles.
There's nothing worse than feeling like that but at least she has a bundle of joy to show for it. lol
Oh and to help her recover pop down to the health food shop and get some Spirulina (Pacifica preferably) - Hawain strain. This will help her body to get back to full strength and recover quicker - but check first if OK if she is breasfeeding.................... my old PA aked her doctor after giving birth a few weeks prevoiusly if she was OK to have a curry whilst breast feeding. That's fine said the doctor however her daughter of 10 weeks thought different and screamed the house down as soon as she had a taste :!:
confused
Awww.. Bless, congrats and all but the only advice I can offer is to have a few extra ones put in...... take up any slack lol...
Bless her..
All this fuss women make about childbirth is all we ever hear as men, it cant be as bad as all that. If men gave birth they would go to the hospital during thier lunch break, give birth to the child, have a couple of paracetamol and be back to work beforethe lunch break was over.....
I'm ready for all the abuse im gonna get for making this joke/comment....

All I really need to say is Man Flu?!!
If men had to be the ones who carried the babies and gave birth, the human race would be extinct in around 70 years time. lol

That long?
For any man who thinks childbirth is a doddle, try spending anything between 8 and 32 hours shitting a basketball out of your arse without screaming for heavy drugs, tearing the wallpaper off the walls with your fingernails or turning into Linda Blair's body double rolleyes

Well based on the average life expectancy and the fact that there are babies yet to be born!
Dont make jokes about Man Flu its real, its been proven! You women have it so easy, and dont mention *time of the month* because im sure all the guys here will agree wih that we have it too (the mood swings....not the bleeding) We have to cope with having a pair of bollucks between our legs which gets soooo irritating as well, we scratch ourselves and adjust ourselves because we have to !

I can't believe you even THOUGHT about posting that, let alone actually did it!!
Having been present throughout the birth of all my children I am totally in awe of what women go through (and I do realise that you didn't mean it Drew - at least, I hope you didn't). Sappho is never one to make a fuss so I have absolutely no doubt that the pain she was experiencing was totally genuine.
There is no doubt that us guys get the better end of this childbirth deal. No morning sickness, no problem wearing the same clothes, we can carry on drinking and doing anything else that we did before conception (bungy-jumping etc.), no pain during childbirth (apart from a crushed hand - but that seems pretty fair under the circumstances) and no nasty effects afterwards - i.e. no stitches. If you ever wanted proof that God is male - there it is! (assuming you believe in him, that is).
To get back on topic, salt baths are definitely the thing. Having recently had the snip (VERY minor compared to what you ladies fo through worship) the biggest problem I found with the stitches is that they itch so much  . Nearly drove me mad. I was soooo pleased when they fell out! I know, I know. Too much information redface rolleyes
Anyway, congratulations to all involved (and to aunty Varca too).
Will
One of these days I will write a short post!
Oh dam I forgot about stitches, my baby's due next month
