Now this might be more pertinent to admin, but I'm wondering what others think,
on the sh book thread there was some criticism of the stories here, now i know the story section is popular, and must confess to an ego boost when a stranger writes nice things about one of mine .But there are hot stories which would benefit from punctuation, paragraphs and the like.
A site I'm a member of has people who act as volunteer editors ,I'm wondering about how this could be implemented on a smaller scale those who are the quickest to criticise the writings of others would be the first to volunteer!

I've edited stories when people have asked me to. There'd have to be a lot of volunteers to edit them all though - so many stories! Some of them are actually quite well-written.
I'm also a volunteer editor on another site. I'd help, and was only this morning thinking that creative erotica would be a good theme for more topics on here.
I'd happily volunteer to edit. I have to admit, it is off-putting, trying to read a story that has bad spelling and grammar. It's a shame, as a lot of the stories seem really interesting!
It may well be a matter of technical 'stuff' (redface Oh I am so competent!) and access rights, but I could be wrong. dunno
I'm sure admin will have a look though.
Are the stories moderated? If so then it would be "one stop" if the moderators were also volunteer editors. I know this would mean extra work, but there is one offer above to get involved and I would be happy to put my name forward provided the hours involved were not onerous. due to plenty of other volunteers to spread the load.
Plim
The stories are 'approved' by Moderators - today I have done several.
Now, by approved I mean I have checked there are no references to or anything illegal. I have also checked that the content is not plagiarised. If I were to then 'edit' the stories for grammar, spelling etc it would take me forever.
I personally think the feeling is that contributing members themselves should edit for errors - most computers have grammar and spell checkers now anyway, so it shouldn't be hard. We aren't a literary site and I suppose that questions over editorial balance and bias would be levelled if we started amending too much of a member's original content.
That's just my personal thoughts though.
*I love the fact that I've just had to edit this post for spelling! rotflmao
Yes, we read all the stories as they first go into a 'holding' area.
However, IMO we are not there to correct spelling, paragraphs etc.
The authors of the stories can write them first in a word or similar documents, spell check it etc before they submit it.
IMO if we did correct spelling etc, for the stories where would it all end...we would have to correct the spelling on the ads, forum etc etc

i know wat u mean bout techie stuff, people would have to edit under other identities so a to avoid there in boxes being filled with unsolicited stories, unfortonatly i dont know how easy a link from volunteer xxxxx to there actual account would be,turning the bloody laptop on defeats me some days ! lol
Show it your tits - they work for me...
There are a couple of people on this site whose stories I have read before they've gone to submission. I'd gladly do the same for other people who have stories they want to tell. My tastes and interests are obvious from my profile - message me and I'll give feedback.

Yes, I assumed that this would be the case, especially for under age sex and copyright (as far as you can tell of course) matters.
Would it not be possible to return VERY badly spelt cases to the submitter asking them to improve it?

The authors don't always provide us with either an email address or username, so it's impossible to return them.
The other problem we would come up against should we edit them is accusations of censorship, nitpicking and putting our noses in where it wasn't asked for! Sometimes we just have to leave them to take responsibility for their own actions and if that means poorly crafted text and bad spelling, so be it. Sometimes that's actually their own character coming through.
Damned if we do, damned if we don't!!

Bloody good idea Kaz  OK it might take a little lateral thinking from the powers that be to make it workable. Maybe a dedicated stories moderator/editor or two, rather than over burden the Moderators already here. What would be the problem with writing in the conditions of the site that stories submitted could be edited for purposes of comprehension.
This seems like a good idea from a member i like the thinking behind it. Hey maybe even put a little seperate forum for story contributors/readers to discuss the stories submitted etc. Might be worth thinking on - something put forward by a member for the members rather than just foisted something undiscussed upon an unsuspecting membership?
Come on Mods don't dismiuss it out of hand ffs

It's not up to us, Lostie, it's entirely up to Admin. We're just giving you the benefit of what we have dealt with over the years and the sort of problems we have come across, nothing more.
As for more rules, we're talking basic educational standards here and we can't legislate for that.
Hope that helps
