Not so much glitches so not really suitable to go in that thread but .....
Seeing as we now have over 360,000 members many of whom haven't accessed the forums previously, we are/will be getting a lot of technical queries ... ie why can't I, what happened to my ad etc etc. This does detract from the community spirit of the Cafe and will put people off. Can we not have an extra forum for people to post these sort of enquiries in? It means the Cafe doesn't get filled with a million of the same post and doesn't look like an unfriendly place with all the locked threads?

Calista - I like your thinking - motion seconded
Thats a good idea Calista wink
A sort of 'help' forum.
Thirded - this place is awash with locked 'techincal' threads right now.. feeling a bit like an elephants graveyard sad
Think youve got the wrong end of the stick there zana.
Calista says that it is a way of making the forum seem friendlier to newbies.
segregation...no, just a method of simplifying things i would say.

Sounds like segregation to me, pehaps a backdoor way of keeping the newbies away from the regulars?
Anyway is it such a big proble to help someone with less knowledge than yourself out?
After all friendships can and do get made in the way
Excuse me? just how is that segregation ... newbies are as welcome to post on any forum that they wish, my thought were purely aimed at stopping newbies getting posts locked and being told to post in the right place!
A forum with stickies for the most popular problems might be of more use than having a forum full of people griping "post in the right place".
dunno

smackbottom :smackbottom: :smackbottom: poke sillyoke: :poke: whip :whip: :whip:
The problem is this Zana2000 ... at the moment there are a number of forum regulars who over the last two days have seen approximately 30 posts about the postcodes, each one gets locked and makes the Cafe look an unfriendly and inhospitable place to newbies and it puts them off posting in case they say something wrong.
A fair few of these people are new to the site completely and therefore don't know about the changes etc so they come in and slag off our beloved little website and it does begin to annoy a fair few.
If newbies wish to jump into the Cafe and introduce themselves, tell us about themselves, where they are etc then you will find a number of people replying to the posts.
My idea was purely to remove the technical posts to somewhere that people could reference for themselves and stop them being bitten at by annoyed regulars.
We are friendly and welcoming .......

None of us object to helping new members... far from it. As Zana herself said, she's had help quickly and willingly on anything she's asked for help for. The idea (which I wholeheartedly agree with) is to have a seperate forum for help type questions. That way the questions and answers are all in one place, and the cafe can revert to being the welcoming place it has been in the past.
There's no suggestion of segregation of members, only segregation of help posts. All of the forums are available for everyone to post in and after having any questions answered in the Q&A forum, new members can get involved in the fun posts in the cafe.
Everyone's a winner as far as I can see dunno

seriously do you really think its only newbies need help with the new site?
all i want to know is how to post an ad without my postcode showing on it and no one seems to be able to tell me that!!

No!! I need help with the new site!!! confused :? :?
I believe the postcode thing is being looked at and should be sorted out soon, but these changes are as alien to me as they are to everyone else, so I'm not really in a position to help anyone yet!!! rolleyes   wink

Nobody suggested it be a "newbies forum" (not if I read correctly they didn't anyway)
The postcode thing can be sorted by going to your account options - choose a town from the drop down menu available and then click in "County"
The town won't be shown but your county will. Hope this is what you wanted to sort out smile
And, this new section wouldnt be just for newbies presumably as we all need a bit of assistance sometimes, i know i do from time to time.

Unfortunately it isnt, i have done that , but when I place an ad it is still catagorised by my postcode
TBH Zana2000 a few people have asked and I haven't seen anyone say that you can remove the postcode and replace it with a Town/County yet sad I do know that the Ads section was revamped with the idea of it being postcode searchable.
The only thing suggested has been to put in a postcode of a town local to you, so it directs people from a similar area but hopefully isn't too close for you to be recognised / located dunno
The only suggestion I have is to email one of the Administrators and ask them directly.

Maybe I can throw a little light on this.
When I first logged on after the changes, with the supposed unified login, my ads seems to have disappeared.
Then I noticed that "existing" ads you had to log in as before, using your email addy. This done, it asked me for my username. Fine I thought, here is the unified login, so I put Phoneix..... answer..... username alraedy in use.. WTF. Tried a number of times, logged in, out and shook it all about but to no avail, still reported username in use. So I use a new username, just for the ads. So much for the unifoed login.
This generates a new profile, and asks for all details again, including post code.
So, if you change your profile in the forum login, it makes no changes to the ads profile. You have to change the details in the ads login as well mad .
Now a question... under the old regime, you could not have two logins, but I have had to have two to get to my ads.... WTF is going on and are you going to ban one of the usernames confused
Another answer for a question asked earlier.
"Notify me me when a reply is posted" is now turned off by default. So now, if you want notification of a post follow up, you need to manually tick the "notify me when a reply is posted" when yoiu compose your post.
