so the bbc has started what appears to be a rather interesting new drama seriel survivors
It looks as the country and the world in general is going to hell in a handbasket due a global flu pandemic (actually predicted as due too... doomsayer, me?)
something similar was made many years ago... I remember watching and being fascinated as a nipper, and have always soaked up with a melancholy joy any novels/films/documentaries that have come along since.
so... society has completely collapsed... the numbers of those surviving id few.. theres a terible mess... and no milk in the supermarket.
what would you do?
I have had dark fantasies in the past of heading for the hills and surviving alone on wild foodstuffs... improvised shelters and generally keeping myself to myself.
There would be trouble for sure. Would you attempt to avoid it all... form an organised and protective band of people and defend yourselves?
Attempt to rebuild?
is this all a little dark?
sorry
lp
Random I remember that series and I like you was absolutely fascinated and scared by it.
Without a doubt Stormy and I would head for the hills...Well we hav'nt been sitting here watching Ray Mears and River Cottage and the like :notes: for nothing you know!!!
Well I wouldn't be starring in it I don't think. I rely too much on the structures of society and it'd be a different sort of person to me that would survive.
I remember the previous series - it had a Japanese fella keeling over in an airport in the opening credits didn't it?
Oh yes - and dark it is and also not too far beyond the realms of possibility.
.
well... I could helpout... I can start fires, allegedly.
toon... survival may not be an option or choice with this pandemic idea. you may survive through no choice of your own... what would you do with that 'survival' though?
(Fire... is the Mear's stuff in box-set yet?)

Arrgghhh I can remember the seventies and the bread strikes!! Actually.... were they bread strikes or electricity power strikes? I can remember queuing for hours and I mean................................ h.........o........u........r.......s lol. A family of eight we were, 6 males and 2 girls who needed their carbs, 'cept I didn't know what carbs were and what bread was in the energy context back then lol I just queued a lot rolleyes
What was the question again ;)
kiss

there is NO BREAD!
everyone (nearly) is brown bread... what would you do?

That's what I meant really. I wouldn't survive long in the aftermath even if I did survive the disease.
Besides it looks like if I headed fer the hills it'd be overpopulated with half of SH!! :giggle:
We could all have a gangstarve.
.

Just to refresh the memories of folk old enough smile
and no Random not unless you can do it by candlelight confused
aren't there rabbits in the hills?
or was it gold in them thar hills?
so... a nice wooded hillside... babbling brook... defensive position. rabbits. Mears... and spontaneous combustion.
actually... one of the old points houses on a railway line, out in the country might be a good spot...
oh I dunno, what am I thinking?

Jeez, I can remember what went on in 1975! Shame I can't remember what happened yesterday innit!
Thank you FL kiss
LP - them rabbits'd be OK as long as they don't get Mixaemaflusis.
.
as long as you pack a fire blanket/extinguisher thingy when you run for those hills lp... wink
I would be petrified to stay in the city for too long.
not merely for the thought of all the dead doing thier dead-thing, you know, the 'returning to the earth' thing.
The city is mad enough as it is, and Im suspecting that the population ratio would be high enough for there to be a fair few survivors... and they wouldnt all be from the local Temperance Society or the WI.
Scary thought indeed... all that knitting mad
I'd have to do some serious looting I think, just to feel safe enough as an individual to go ahead and get outta town safely.
Sorry to say I would no doubt attempt to arm myself... purely self defence mind you...
strooth... just think of all the accidental killings there would be with all the over anxious and edgy folk wandering about with everything from baseball bats to bows to shotguns!!
Push bike and laden panniers... nice and quiet.. wheel out of town for the clean air.... avoiding everything and everyone.
maybe I should get my driving licence now? Just in case?
Have just been talking about boats.. having seen the barge on this programme... the canals could well be navigable couldnt they?
maybe head for the coast?

indeed Boney, that was another one that caught my attention... a real horror. That, as well as the fact of all the destruction to life and infrastructure, had the ongoing terror of radiation sickness etc.
Have I started something good and cheery for a sunday evening?

That scared the crap out of me as well and don't think I could watch it even now
As for survival now I think I would do what they did in one of the zombie films and hide out in a huge shopping mall..lakeside or bluewater would do me fine...enough food clothes and shoes to last a while lol
But what if the dead all rise again as Zombies    could you cope?
Find out here....

Blimey its a typing dog...... rolleyes
I think i'd hate every bit of the being alone thing :-( Mind you the survival bit I think I could manage quite well. I would hope to meet up with a small group of varied skilled people to start a small self sustaining community with ambitions on growing too encompass more and more people. The hardest thing to cope with would be the memories of the lost :-(.
I would be happy to stay local to where I am now though as it is ideal for self sustainabilty.
Ive just had the horrid thought that I'd like to see quite a few of the larger cities burn
