I would like to know if there's anyone else here who would like to be volunteer in order to test the updates before the come available on the market.

Do we need a larger number of testers ?

I think we have enough testers for the app at the moment...
well the the new version of the App is released. And its looking good. Especially for when your sat in a bar, a bit bored and looking for people to do on a Friday night!
I do think the admin needs to make it clearer on the login page about the existence of the App, and email the 1,328,977 in a mailshot about the exciting new app.
I'm mailing from the App now, its cool.
When you getting it on to the iPhone?
Pleeeeeeeease...

ALready using the App to get and respond to messages.
ALso upload pics and vids.
Enjoying it so far.
Although i am going to email the developer to 1. Rename the icon to SH or something and 2. Put a protection feature on it.

once i downloaded the app i then had to make sure nobody else used my phone. I eventually found a free app called VisualizeR (the upper case R is not a typo). This allowed me to make a shortcut icon, and call it what ever i wanted. I could then delete the original SH icon which flashed like a beacon on my phone. Now its much less obvious.
 for going droid first
I've loaded the app, looks useful.
But.... the new 'wonder feature' isn't working. The link to the map is greyed out. Do I have to enable something or is it not ready yet?

Oldham,
Depends on your actual smartphone, as each company has different terminology, however for most HTC Android devices you will need to have 'Location' enabled on your phone.
- so launch the app
- open the 'menu' option on your phone
- click 'settings', when it appears at the bottom of the App screen
- under "location" enable location updates
Also remember that when you launch the app it takes your phone 2-3 seconds to recognise your Location and change the 'grey' to 'green', so as to show it's located you and can then let you use this feature.
When using the app's map feature, click the 'green' person icon in the bottom left hand corner of the screen, this brings up a distance search and also profile preference option.
This will then show all other SH android app users who are 'location' enabled within the search area, though you can zoom the map out to expand past your search distance as well. When you locate another user you will see the same 'green' person icon, so click it for more features.
By the way, there is another useful feature within the "setting" menu under "security", called "enable CODE protection" whereby you can create a PIN number so when launching the app rather than inputting userid and password, you just input your PIN instead.
Hope this helps

Please scroll back to Page 1 and St3v3's 18th Aug 2011 - 2:30pm update
My understanding was that the Android app being their initial priority, particularly as it's free on the Android market and currently Android has more shipped handsets than Apple.
However now that the Android version has just been updated then they may consider looking at similar versions for Apple, Blackberry, Windows Mobile, etc. if there is sufficient demand.
It's great to see users are now using the App, I'm in Ireland but can still pick you all up VIA the map functionality.
Great to hear the app is working good, we had a record of downloads this weekend (around 300 new installations).
There will more updates, but now I'll focus on the app for iPhone/Blackberry.

I updated the app at the weekend, and at work today tried to access the map function, just to see what it's like. I wondered how accurate the map would be... If for example 100 people had this function active at a munch, and somebody who was not invited was driving around looking for the venue, would they be able to pin point it dunno
Well it located me to within 50 metres of my location at the time. So, bearing in mind that a munch venue is only notified to those officially on the guest list, it might be worth adding some comment to munch guidelines about attendees turning the option off before travelling there.

Ian,
Good idea, perhaps a note to St3v3 to update Munch Guidelines http://www.swingingheaven.co.uk/terminology/munch.html
Plus this is also applicable to the majority of Socials as well, so perhaps something similar needs adding to http://www.swingingheaven.co.uk/swingers-forum/viewtopic/65788.html
Plus the Munch & Social Guide Guidelines (pdf) http://www.swingingheaven.co.uk/assets/Munch_and_Social_Guidelines.pdf needs to be similarly updated ?

I think that it's going to be easier if I set a proximity alert on the application that will turn off the location updates while user is within 20-30 miles from the event location.
What do you think?
Red alert! Stand by for evasive action! Shields up! Phasers to full power! Fire photon torpedoes - full spread!

hehehe, proximity alert is how it's called in Android when you detect the location from an specific point.. Full information
But if you want I can add a torpedo sound lol

In the database is still disabled your location updates. Can you try to reinstall the application?

Android,
a proximity alert would be fine if/when Events are listed within the mobile App, which they aren't currently.
however I understand Ian's point about users detecting a possible 'cluster' of users at a single location at a given time on a given day/date whilst attending a Private Party, Social or Munch. Therefore would a a proximity alert actually work for mutiple users at the same location ?
(Yes I understand that if/when Events are listed within the mobile App it might be possible to proximity alert the location, afterall a Location/Post Code field is part of Events, however not all Socials or Munchs are listed via Events - please have a word with St3v3 re separate correspondence on this issue)

HnS the location proximity alert will be activated on each device with the application, and then then application can read the specific location (available to attendees only) and set the the limits where the app will stop updating the location. It's easy to detect when the user enters in the area (Desactivate location update) and when they exit (ReActivate location updates if they were enabled).
I'll talk with St3v3 to set the development plan for that feature.

i have wifi enabled at home and was using that, but also its worthwhile noting that it can take a few mins to work after installing and enabling setting, and also be outside to enable the satellites to find you
just downloaded the android app ... all looks good, but no matter what we do, the MAP button won't work. What are we doing wrong ?
Still struggling here to get the map to work.
Enabled updates,
re installed
turned off wifi / turned on wifi
still a grey button
*EDIT*
Think we Sussed it , when we select the location tick, as soon as we hit the back arrow (HTC Desire) it undsets the option. If we hit menu and exit out the app, then re load its not set either.
