I don't consider 50 mph too slow on a 60mph speed limit road.
And any tailgating at that speed displays stupidity on the part of the tailgater.

Sorry to ruin your belif system, but most roads are limited by the 85% rule ie the speed limit is set at 85% of what the road is designed for using car data from a few yrs ago (quite a few yrs ago if memory serves me correctly).

So 51mph would be considered ok then, according to this calculation?
What caveman is saying is that the 60mph speed limit is 85% of the speed that it is safe to do on that road so 50/51mph is dangerous rolleyes
If someone following hasn't got the patience to travel at a little less than the speed limit then might I suggest they go and speak to their local fire service or ambulance station and ask them about the accidents that are caused by driving every where at 100%.....

Speed doesnt kill, people being selfish/unskilled/ignorant while driving a car kills.

Speed does kill along with impatience and bad judgement
Quote by Freckledbird
If a bigger, faster car is behind you, just move over and let it pass, what's the problem? If he/she is breaking the speed limit that's their lookout. Taigaiting IS dangerous but so is being bloody minded and adopting a "they shall not pass" mentality.

That's fine if you have space to move over safely - but if I was driving safely within the speed limit, then I'm afraid said tailgater would have to wait - I won't speed up just because someone is driving too close.
No one was advocating for you to speed up, I was referring to those who say they will deliberatley slow down. What a lot of people forget is that on a dual carriage way or motorway, the outside lanes are for overtaking. Too many drivers just sit in the outside lane(s) and think that it is their right to sit there. A good driver will be considerate of all others on the road, fast or slow.
Yep, and if all drivers were considerate, there would be no tailgaters in the first place.
I'm not sure if you think that I'm trying to condone tailgaiting in certain circumstances, so just to clarify things, I'm not. Tailgaiting is highly dangerous. I'm just trying to highlight that it's also bad driving to sit in an overtaking lane and not observe lane discipline, especially when it's premeditated just to piss off the driver(s) behind.

I was agreeing with you!
If you get stuck behind a slower driver just remember that five minutes (or until they move out of the way) of patient driving is a much better option than a life time of guilt for killing someone whilst at the wheel.

I know speed kills, so can tailgating, but then again so can a twat driving way too slow, causing tailbacks and frustrations with other drivers.
Why can't people see that driving at low speeds can cause deaths. If people do it to save fuel, then get the train maybe? :dunno:
People tailgate a lot because people will not pull over, I am not advocating tailgating at all but sometimes it can be the only way for people to pull over, especially on a motorway.
So try and keep up with the flow of traffic and if you want to be in the outside or middle lanes on a motorway, then do the decent speed, if not bugger off into the inside lane please.

What I find works for the twat who will insist on sticking in the middle lane at 55 whilst the rest of the motorway is empty is to:
1. Switch lights on main beam so he notices you in the rear mirror.
2. Accelerate steadily towards him so that again he can see you coming.
3. Keep accelerating right up until the last minute when he thinks you're going to ram him.
4. Then right at the last minute, as close as you can get to him... move to the outside lane and go past him with one constant horn tone to add to the fear.
It's never yet failed to get the fuckwit to pull over into the nearside lane.

Agreed. Where we differ is the definition of "too slow".
You have said previously that you don't agree with someone driving at 50 mph on a motorway. My attitude is that 50 is not "too slow", - as long as it's in the left hand lane - and only causes frustration in people who are driving faster than this. That's what the overtaking lanes are there for.
Why can't people see that driving at low speeds can cause deaths. If people do it to save fuel, then get the train maybe? :dunno:

No thanks. I like to drive myself.

Well it sounds like you are advocating it as a way to make people move over.
What about the people like me, doing 50mph in the left lane, and getting tailgated - where would we move over to?
What about people - and in my experience this is where the most tailgating occurs - doing 70mph in the middle lane, overtaking the slower traffic in the left lane, who get tailgated - why should we be bullied into moving into slower traffic by someone breaking the law?
Well I do move over. I let someone bully me, because because I'd rather a law-breaking dangerous twat bully me than cause me to crash.
So try and keep up with the flow of traffic and if you want to be in the outside or middle lanes on a motorway, then do the decent speed, if not bugger off into the inside lane please.

Yes traffic moving slower than the middle and ouside lanes should be in the inner lane, agreed.

People tailgate because they are basically crap drivers who have no patience and have never had an accident but doubtless seen plenty in the rear view mirror....

And when there`s an accident because of this aggresive behaviour....it`ll be the fault of the driver who was driving to slow to suit you !! rolleyes
Bad drivers ALWAYS blame something other than their own inablity to drive safely.
Fog doesn`t kill ....bad drivers do.
Rain and snow don`t kill...bad drivers do
.
Driving to slow doesn`t kill....bad drivers do.
Speed doesn`t kill....bad drivers do.
I even heard somebody blame the camber of the road and the fact that he had the wrong tyres on his car for the accident that put him and his girlfriend in hospital !!!!
He was overtaking somebody that he deemed to be driving to slow.
On the ones I have highlighted I think a traffic officer would def not agree with you. Yes bad drivers kill but bad conditions can also catch drivers out, and kill. Speed def kills, snow can catch you out, without you even speeding or being a bad driver.

I think I said driving at 50 on a motorway is too slow in anything other than the inside lane. On a motorway the middle and outside lanes are supposed to be for overtaking only.
If I was doing 70 in the middle lane of a motorway there is no way I would pull over is someone was sitting up my arse, they still have the outside lane to use....so bugger em. My gripe is with people that drive under the speed limit on a single carriageway road. Cannot understand why people cannot see this is inconsiderate and frankly dangerous to do.
On another road either a dual carriageway or a motorway with three lanes, then to tailgate is not on as they have other lanes to overtake..... You would be amazed at what i see on my bike, as I can overtake more easily. I even have had cars tailgate me at over a 100mph on a road, but I soon lose em. lol

You really must be joking with that statement !!!
Why on earth is it dangerous for someone to drive under the speed limit on a single carriageway road ????
An example of what I witnessed this year.
Driving on me bike I came a cross a massive line of traffic, must have been 50 plus cars all doing about 20mph on a 50mph road. Now because I am on a bike I could overtake easily. When I got almost to the front of the traffic there was an old boy of about 300 years old doing no more than 30mph.
As I approached cars were trying to overtake at almost any opportunity that came about. I sat behind about 6 cars from the front and watched as the car third back from the front just pulled out, into virtually oncoming traffic.
Now I know that was not right but the leading car was causing severe tailbacks, and getting worse with each passing mile. Are you really telling me that is not dangerous? To do 30 in a 50 on a Sunday afternoon where lots of traffic was about. Causing untold problems behind.
I just sat there for about 5 minutes open mouthed at the risks people were taking to overtake.....so in my opinion slow driving in some conditions can kill, and can certainly be dangerous.
In those instances I defy most people not to get pissed off big time. Yes bad drivers can kill for sure. If that same driver had done that on his test I bet he would fail, for failing to keep up with the flow of traffic.
not a problem Flower, glad to have been of some help to you. lol

The fact is that it dismays me that a forum that I love and enjoy has been invaded by a small minded minority who seem to take pleasure in picking holes in other peoples arguments merely for the sake of it.
We're here to enjoy eachother's company in a sexually related way. I'll accept that some serious threads are warranted but I will not accept that anybody has the right to disrespect other's point of view.
