Taking Things Personally

After logging on this morning and reading the Sh Spring Honours List, I felt a bit put out that my name wasnt there :shock: Why? Why would I care so much about something said in the cyber world? Does it really matter? Does it really make a difference to me or how others perceive me? No it doesnt but from time to time I seem to really take things to heart that are said here. Even though sometimes not directed at me
Is it all about feeling accepted? Do we all like to feel accepted or does it not really matter to you? Is it maybe about the mood you may be in that day and if so do you stay away until you feel able to return in a better state of mind? or do you stay regardless?

Trouble is, now you've started this thread, someones going to go over to that thread (with good intentions) and post in it to make you feel better, which will make you feel like you've posted this just to get someone to post in the other one ..... and make you feel worse! :lol2:
Those feel good style of threads are styled (unintentionally) for the minority, the very very few. Sure when you do get a mention, it does make you feel absolutely wonderful, as you probably already know. But you can't get offended over something someone didn't say, you need a thicker skin. As I said, they're geared up for the minority, they're in noway a slur on the other 600000 members who don't, and many many many who never will, get a mention.
So I would say, just carry on with your SH life, then when you do get a mention in one of the popularity style threads, it'll not only be out of the blue, but so much more special

and i fully appreciate what you have said but the more people try to make me feel better, the worse I do feel. Like im one of those geeks trying to be popular and failing. Trying to get everyone to notice me.
That really is not the case here.

it is weird seeing this type of post... because when i first came on here 3 yrs ago, I Would have cared about the type of post that was mentioned, because it made me feel as if had been "accepted" or a "validation" as such into the community...
now, older,wiser and at ease, I am much more pragmatic about it all, I have seen people come and go, and people lists are going to change with time, and you are going to get on with some people better than others.... heck i have fallen out with more people than i would care to remember
and people who would have been on the list 3 years ago would be nowhere near it now, and vice versa... for every action there is going to be a reaction.... i can empathise with how louise feels, and i have also empathise how searcher feels as well, it was probabaly a well meaning thread and meant no harm to anyone, but this is why i stay out of these kind of threads

Very true.....and how does a person then feel knowing that they werent on the list but then have been added only AFTER they whinged about not being on. A can of worms has been opened methinks!

If searcher mentioned everyones name on that list he'd be there for a couple of weeks writing. Don't think there was any intention of leaving people out. In my opinion, the thread & the people on the list have helped him in a personal way over the last 18 months whether it was

I used to take it personally when I'd have a good social meet with someone only to have the brush off afterwards. Now it doesn't bother me though I'd rather be told outright that things won't be taken further than be led to believe otherwise. I know I'll never be everyone's cup of tea and that's fine by me

I did not whinge as such about not being on the list
I did mention it but it wasnt a whinge about being on the list, it was a whinge at myself for taking things personally,
As for now being added, I have pm'd Sercher and told him that he really didnt need/have to do that. Im sure I can survive not being on it.
Please read between the lines it really wasnt all about being on the list

The only list I am working on right now is a food shopping list for the weekend

I was thinking of trying Swindonnewbies chicken dish but I've noticed the cheese has hardly any fat content and I wonder how it will turn out, one way to find out of course.
I do recommend my chicken dish contained in the same thread :P

I cant say that the forum effects me so much now, I think it gives you a thicker skin with certain things eventually. Personally, i would not take too much insult from a forum, its the people that really know me and who i am that makes the difference....

its one of those things, i tend to stay away from threads such as 'big up a forumate', 'who would you like to shag' etc etc as there is bound to be someone you forget or it makes people feel left out, rightly or wrongly it does,
its a bit like checking a munch thread to see who mentions you, sad but true, dont do it anywhere near as much as i used to but still sometimes
i;m not saying its wrong to put up the so called 'popularity threads' i personally just stay away from them.
