I really aint bothered about caravans i just know that last night at around midnight i was thundering through about 18inches of mud across fields with a herd of galloping loonatic horses chasing me, to get at their feed, we had to move them at a minutes notice so we could graze the sick horse nearby, but still keeping her seperate.... we have no choice here to run the herd we need a 4x4 and a big one at that.....

I supose towing a tent along the motorway may flap a bit, but tents are meant to have flaps. But a 4x4 would be quite justifiable in towing a campsite!
we too drag a caravan - after using saloon cars a 4x4 is simply the best. nice to see other caravaners on this site too :P
I found this on another forum and thought it may be of interest.
Autocar Magazine list 55 vehicle manufactures producing 3042 different model variations.
Of the 3042 vehicle variations not one vehicle falls into the zero road tax bracket of 100 CO2 or below (not even the Smart diesel as reported on radio 4 yesterday) and only 88 of the 3042 vehicle variations will see the road tax reduction. 470 vehicle variations will get the reduction and 571 variations will remain paying the current road fund licence
The cleverly hidden part is the largest group by far, the normal family car / repmobile. They will face an increase of cunningly hidden by putting the spot light on us 4x4 drivers!
Of the 586 vehicle variations that fall into the NEW band G (225 CO2 and above) only 130 are true 4x4 (offroad) vehicles. Therefore the remaining 456 variations are sports or other luxury execcutive vehicles.
Although new Band G have been hit the hardest ( increase on new cars) us 4x4 drivers have been used as an effective smoke screen to hide the REAL whipping "Mr Anti 4x4 Joe Public" has taken (average £25 increase) but won't realise until they renew their tax!

Who's to sorry !! My car tax is now 0 (zero) each year.
If you have larger cars with higher emissions, then yes you should pay more, someone driving a car leaves a much smaller carbon footprint, so they should benefit. Cant see why people are moaning, get rid of your bigger cars and buy a smaller one, or simply pay up.
It's got nothing to do with cutting green house gases and everything to do with bleeding us dry...
ffs, where IS all this money going?
What about my sandals?? :giggle:

It's just took me the best part of 3 quarters of an hour to read through this post and I have to say the word "IDIOTS" spring to mind, why should anyone have to pay more duty than anyone else especially when they are already doing so in fuel costs, anyone who harps on about the environment and the ozone layer are needing to take a step back and open there eyes, do you think this extra charge is going to buy a new ozone layer? No it’s going to the government for their pensions while we all have to work to 80 to get ours, your argument sucks! These same people that are harping on about such things probably fly to Tenerife for there holidays each year which is more harmful than running a large car or 4x4 for 10 years, would you be happy then to pay a £200 flight tax for each flight? To sum it up the people who think 4x4 owners should pay more are simply just clueless! especially considering the extra fuel duty they already have to pay for the privilege. I'm more than happy to pay towards any good cause but this isn't one of them. Some people need these type of vehicles and depend on them. Taxing them more when they already pay excess costs through fuel is nothing more than scandalous and the people out there that do depend on these vehicles will still use them because they need them, yes some people don't need 4x4's but why should people who do need them be punished for someone else's selfish needs? Most people that do rely on these vehicles do so not because they’re rich or have money to burn but because it suits there needs, look at smoking and cigarettes as an example people are drawn to poverty due to tax levels on them, some people try to quit but fail miserably. Overtaxing does more harm than good in my opinion, If the money was going to the cause I’d be more than happy to contribute my share but its just lining the governments pockets and wont make a single bit of difference to our environment. For gods sake where’s the argument???? Extra funds to the government won’t help global warming or the environment
