OK, I was browsing the net when suddenly my screen switched sides. My icons are along the bottom and my task bar is up the right hand side. I have no idea how it happened and no idea how to fix it. My screen is literally round the wrong way.
Im am typing sideways at the moment and it is rather painful on my neck.
Anybody know how to fix it????
Easiest thing to try is rebooting the PC.
Do NOT turn your monitor on it's side, they are only designed to cool themselves properly when the air vents are at the top!
rebooting???? Isnt that wiping your computer of everything???? I've tried restarting it but that didnt sort it.
Ive just spent a bloodt fortune on this damn thing!!!
If your task bar is up the side, it one of the `F` keys which`ll put it right, one 7, 8 or 9, I forget which one!
I`ll be nice!

Oh! Tried dragging it back into place?

Dunno then, sorry, I`ve been dragging my task bar about to check, and haven`t had any trouble getting it back dunno
Have you checked to see if it`s locked?

Rightclick on the Taskbar
Go to properties.
You can sort it from there

How do I fix it from there, all I can see is ways to choose what you want shown on your taskbar/start menu????

Just click inside the taskbar, keep the mouse button held down and drag it back to where you want it smile
I don't think there's anything in 'properties' on the taskbar that will help.
I can move the taskbar but everything is staying sideways. All the icons abd everything.

Is it XP?
If so control panel - performance and Maintenance and on left hands side do sytem restore. Set a restore point of say yesturday when you know it was working and let it mend itself.

And for future reference, it was most likely a setting.
Intel video cards have hotkeys that can rotate the screen, and it's quite easy to accidentally press them moving the keyboard around, without knowing what you've done!
Other cards have similar. If you can cope with the bad neck, then to fix it usually you just go to the display properties (right click on desktop, or go through control panel), select advanced in the settings bit, and take it from there smile
Thanks very much shambolic!!!
We just recently got a new graphics card fitted. Is there any chance it could have been that do you know?

Depends on the card. I've only come across someone accidentally managing it with Intel cards, which are almost always onboard ones nowadays, but there's no reason why other cards might not have the same problem. To rotate the screen on my PC I have to go through the settings, there's no keyboard shortcut, but that doesn't mean other makes/ models are the same of course.
Not that it really makes any difference if you don't ever have the problem again smile

Mine's an ATI Radeon X300 and that has hotkeys for rotating the screen (it's for LCD wifescreen monitors you can get now that swivel between landscape and portrait mode)
As an aside, if you want to know EXACTLY what hardware/software you have installed, use this... it's free and I now find it invaluable, particularly if you're rebuilding and need to know exactly what patch levels etc. you were at before you started (and it's completely free of any spyware/popup/popunder etc. etc. nasties !)
That Steph... she's sooooooooo smart... knows just about everything....... and everyone!!!!!
Been using computers since the dawn before time . well 1994 to be precise and I never heard of a screen going sideways b4......... wierd!!.... oh well.. back to tartin n pervin.....

Showoff!
Mine's a much more basic Radeon, and has the option to set hotkeys for rotation, but none set by default. In fact, given most stuff only comes with manuals on the CD if at all, and most people don't RTFM, setting hotkeys by default seems a silly idea to me. Far too easy tohjit the wrong key when frenziedly typing away...
