eekkk  confused
Earlier on today I was having a little nap on the sofa and managed to knock the TV remote while ITV was on.....whatever I pressed made the sound go off.......just on that channel, the rest are fine. I've tried pressing loads of different buttons but can't get the sound back on.
Has anyone got any ideas what I've pressed and how to fix it......other wise it looks like I'll be watching Corrie with the subtitles on sad
And please can we leave the blonde joke out until I've fixed it :lol2:
Depends on what make of TV and whether you are watching analogue, Freeview or Sky but it sounds like to me you've switched it over to a different, but empty, audio channel on ITV.
Some devices and channels have different audio channels that are used for different things such as different languages etc.
Go to that channel.
Go to Menu.
Audio.
Options.
MTS should be Stereo or Mono not Auto Sap.
Fingers crossed
On some remotes there is an "aux" or "av" button that can switch between dvd, video, sky etc, and I have found sometimes when I have hit it, I lose the sound. I don't know if you have this on yours.. but try pressing it and see what happens.. usually brings my sound back to normal.. like peanut says.. depends on what set up you have...
Best of luck!
have you paid your TV licence?
BBW I've just tried what you suggested but when i go to the audio menu the only options are...... volume, balance, audio preset, treble and bass dunno
ohh actually i've just found another menu redface there's a LCD menu or a DVB menu tried both and neither have it how you said :dunno:
Now this is going to sound really blonde but I don't know what sort of TV we're on.......it's a listed building so we're not allowed ariels so the TV comes in from a cable but it's not normal cable if that makes sense......it's just a way that they hook us up to some ariel somewhere and we get all the normal freeview channels but don't need a box or anything.....does that make any sense.
The TV is a Goodmans one not even sure if we've got any instructions for it as it was an ex display one that we got cheap......really it's ment to be the bedroom telly but I've got it in the lounge till the nice John Lewis van comes with my big one on Thursday. Although I'm not sure I'll be left alone with the new one if I've managed to break this one surprisedops: :giggle:
Not sure if any of that makes any sense but an further advice would be appreciated smile
try watching corrie on your pc @ till your new telly turns up thurs is my only advice to you ..... i hardly watch live telly anymore as the internet gives me most of what i want when i want to watch it without the need of recording it

It's not 'cable' as such, what it sounds like is that there is one aerial (probably in the loft space) which is connected to a distribution amplifier. If you're getting the freeview channels without having a set top box or a DVB telly then there'll be a freeview box on the circuit somewhere. Though if you have a DVB option in your telly setup then it sounds like it is already digital enabled.

It's a process of elimination. Most TVs cannot mute on just one channel. It is possible, as Kitty suggested, that if you also have a VCR or PVR connected to the TV and you were watching ITV via the VCR/PVR that you muted it on the VCR/PVR in which case it would only be muted on the AV channel and not the "3" channel.
Other than the multi audio channels or the above hypothesis then I don't have a clue. The other alternative is to hit all the remote buttons to see if you can reverse the action.

I think that might be the best option. That way I still get to watch the soaps and Easy can sort it out when he gets in :giggle:

I tried that before I posted but maybe it's worth trying it again see if it helps ......although knowing me I'll probably break something else as well. Thanks for the advice Peenut and everyone but it looks like I'll be going with Sarahs suggestion....just need a glass of vino now and I'll be al sorted :lol2:

If you ring me when corrie is on, I can put my phone next to the telly, so you can hear the sound and watch the telly, whilst sitting on your sofa! biggrin

You're only a short distance from me so ordinarily I'd volunteer to come round to sort you out  but as I've been slobbing it all day I'm in no fit state for public viewing, I also have to go sort out my daughter's laptop rolleyes

I do love the way us women come up with creative solutions rather than trying to bother with all this techie stuff :lol2:

Oi! Cheeky mare......it's a good job I like you or else you'd be getting a good one of these smackbottom
Now if you take the mickey shall we bring up the time you broke the chatroom and had to hold up signs so we could see what you wanted to say :giggle:
**Update for the helpful people.....now when I put ITV on it still has no sound of the people talking but the voice over thing for people with impaired vision is on. So I'm watching it with the subtitles on and getting a running commentary at the same time.....ie. "Fizz is leaving the corner shop"
Really not got a clue what this bloody telly's going to do next. confused

kate.
I think that we all know that it isn't the TV that is at fault rolleyes
This will define love when Easy get's home. The paperwork and everything is signed isn't it ? He can't back out ?
You have somehow clicked on audio description..... have you turned the tv off unplugged it and turned it on again? My blind friends tv does this sometimes and this is how we clear it......

Splendid.....I can imagine you laughing as you read about my dilema, and don't try telling me you are just smiling with noise again, it don't wash with me.....plus not being able to watch Corrie properly is more of a drama than being stuck in a crset :lol2: :giggle:
I swear you and Winchy are ganging up on me  Just wait till I find a Mod and I'll get them to hit you with a stick......or whatever it is that gives Sarge his kicks these days :lol2:
I'll bet Easy will come in and sort it out by pressing one button so we'll not tell him about this thread eh smile
** Further update.....now I do get some sounds on ITV but only the bit when it goes to the credits......al I get is "Harveys the furniture store sponsers Corranation Street" and then it goes dead again sad I swear Easys done something to the TV so that I can't watch my soaps :(

It just showed I was resourceful! rotflmao
Anyway, I was just thinking of something Mr W (another blonde :roll) did once.......
he came to find me, ranting that his almost new MP3 player had packed up. "No matter what I press, theres no :censored: sound coming out!" Ranted himself.
So I reached over & plugged the headphones in. :rotflmao:
Helpful suggestion, is there a bit in the menu to restore factory settings?

I'm guessing I must have pressed something but don't understand why audio description should stop the normal sound......kinda beats the point really when it means I have to watch with subtitles on. Plus it's weird that it only does it on the one channel dunno now I've got Eastenders on sound is fine........subtitles on but no audio description......weird weird weird.
And yes i do watch loads of crap on telly redface

Looks like I got it right and you are on the alternate audio channel. Is there not a button on the remote that says "audio" or something similar? It may even be one of the teletext buttons with an alternate function.

Nah can't find one........oh well I'll just have to watch the rest of it with subtitles on and the audio thing going.......weirdly it's fine when the Harveys furniture store bit comes on dunno
Tan......how dare you say such a thing about Corrie.....it's important viewing doncha know. I bet you're the sort that says "well it's only a game" when we lose at the footy as well!":giggle:
And Sarah.......yep you and t'other Sarah are the only ones who have come up with good ideas.....maybe it's something in the name but next time I'm having a drama I won't bother with a thread and just PM you too :lol2:

There's a button that says sound on it.....tried that but just get a choice of personal, theatre, voice etc and none of them make any difference. Guess I'll have to wait until Easy gets back sad
hi
find the back to default on the main menu
and then use auto tune to restore the channels
sorry girls my he! told me
Take a picture of the remote control and post it on here (if you can work out how to operate the camera/phone wink )
Should be able to spot the audio stream button if it's clear enough
