On one of my PC's used soley for downloading has started running slow so I've had a play with it and found the RAM is always streched to full capacaty it has half a gig of ram fitted.
My first thought was memory leakage but it's a constant problem that starts as soon as I boot
up, so I've restarted in safe mode and all is well untill I restart in normal then its full again.
I've used MSCONFIG and closed all pointless programmes that run from start up but it's still fooked.
So my mind tells me Virus  (my first ever one I'm so proud) now norton can't find it so I need a safe online fix I think all sugestions are more than welcome. smile

watch this Sheddy, advice without piss taking
first off, can you swap the ram stick with another machine to check if there's a hardware fault (rare, i know, but worth checking)
have you checked the size of virtual memory allocation, defragged drive, cleaned cookies and done all the general tidyup stuff including checking your hard drive for errors (as this could cause a possible bottleneck swapping data round)
if you need an online virus checker, try

I've swopped the ram and increased virtual memory and done all the usual stuff but it's got me beat sad
Next step is an online scan after I've recoverd from the shock off no piss taking lol

It could also be due to having Spyware being installed on your computer......its usually very hard to spot......there are a lot of programs on the net that you can dowload to get rid of them if thats the case......

I don't know but 512M of ram doesn't sound like an awful lot to me but if you've closed down all the non-essential progs ... could it be that you need to defrag your hard drive?
cool
