Yes, I don't think my brain was working redface
Think with your tits then, you'll be a genius
Yes but I wont get anything else done at all confused
Can anyone help with this please - I opened an email which had a .docx attachment, and it has somehow installed a trial version of "Microsoft Office Home & Student 2007" onto my pc
It keeps asking me for a product key, which obviously I don't have, and it's saying that I have 17 more opportunities to enter this product key, at which time there will be reduced functionality - omg!
I was very happy with my previous version of Office, how do I get rid of this 2007 version?
ok if vista the its
control panel
programms
(find in the list) uninstall or remove
if xp
control panel
add/remove programms
(find in the list) uninstall
hope i got this right redface
Thank you ladies, I now have a 2007-free pc! :bounce:
Thanks so much both of you kiss
Good old Microsoft!!!
Glad your sorted now smile

The other option would have been to do a system restore back to a date/time before the install. ;-)

You can usually open .docx files by 'renaming' the file in windows explorer and just deleting the x off the end.
as for deleting 2007 Cherry, you were too quick off the mark- i could have sorted out the registration for you with that innocent (win 2k and 2k3 is much better though ;))
The trial version only lasts 2 months though, unless you have a pirated copy somewhere or access to copies of Office
I have looked through all the pages because I remember someone telling me about a free virus scan but for the heck of me I cant find it, could someone please tell me of any good free virus scans.
Many thanks

In edit: Im on vista if that makes any difference.
If you want an anti virus program then use avast

if you want to do an online based scan without installing anything, then try trend micro housecall
we use avg and can be found at ... you may want to use a malware programme as well find a good

seems to be a decent scan, nothing to download (click continue to security check)You then get 2 options for a virus scan or security check. It must run in IE not firefox/opera..

Noooooooooooo!, don't ever install anything Norton/Symantec based unless you want your pc to slow down and then spend feckin ages trying to get its dirty tentacles out of your op system :scared:
Hi I agree Norton products do tend to slow puters down if I was forced to use one it would be the Internet security one.....set only to scan and update when I tell it!
Currently I use mcaffee internet security set up this way and you would barely know its there smile
There are various free scanning tools you can get...I would recommend goin to the Computeractive website and downloading them from there as there are lots of virus full versions bein offered online if you don't know what you are doin!!!
By downloading them from there you should be ok :)

I'm guessing by the above that you've had the handset replaced four times, in which case have a look when you got the last one as each unit is subject to a twelve month warranty, so if you only had the latest one 6 months ago it's still in warranty even if your contract has run for over 12 months.
Secondly, under the consumer goods act you're entitled to a 12 month warranty and upto 6 years where the unit should give an acceptable level of quality (not including reasonable wear and tear). Go back and talk to them, do a little research on the comsumer good act, if it's a shop then go when it's a bit busy so you can get loud and stroppy with the manager if they're trying to ignore your rights, at the least they should look at getting it repaired for you.

i have tried to phone orange but the network coverage here is rubbish and its hard to get enough signal to phone them sad
and the trouble is that even if they do give me a new phone it will be the same model and as iv already had it changed several times and its still rubbish, im not that bothered about getting a new one :(
what about getting another new one(with another 12 month guarantee) and keeping it sealed and selling it on ebay or somewhere and using the money to buy the handset you want.
if you have had the handset replaced before then tell them you are not happy with the model and they may just offer you a different handset

any updates on this?
Mt ISP has changed its supplied anti-virus/security software for a cheaper version, and as a consequence I've been infected. (well, the Lappy has)
to such an extent that the anti-v etc could not scan and clean, and consequently, it appears that the lappy's Security Centre has kicked in and now simply refuses to allow me to get the machine working beyond a start-up screen.
(I'm not even sure of the validity of this, and the 'security centre' is asking me for cash to progress!?!)
so, is there a way for me to override this start up thingie and get the machine cleaned?
You may have surmised that Im using another machine to type this.
lp
When your lappy boots up, hit the F8 key once (or like me, as many times as possible so you don't miss it). Choose 'Safe Mode with networking' so you can connect to the internet. It'll look like blocky nonsense but it's safe. Then get on the internet and go to and download the program. Install it, but don't run it yet.
Next go to and download the free edition. Install that program and then run it. Once it's done, remove whatever you can and then run malwarebytes' program.
Once that's done, remove everything and then invest in ZoneAlarm for a good, free firewall ( , go for the basic firewall).
It might be a pain initially as you give permissions to all the programs that need the internet, but it'll save a headache later on.
Alternatively
If you can't get on the internet with option A, choose 'Safe mode' on it's own then download the above programs on a 'puter with a CD burner and burn the programs onto a spare CD. Then follow the steps above.
Alternatively Alternatively....
If you still can't get past the startup screen, you have a corrupt MBR (master boot record) and it needs some serious fixin. If you're not sure about how to go about it, I'd recommend a good repair shop that knows their stuff.

if you have a copy of windows on CD, stick it in the drive and boot up from that (you may need to go into your bios system to change the boot order to cd-rom first- follow the instruction on the boot screen to get to bios, it's probably delete, F1 or F2)
you should have then booted into a clean version of windows so see if you can access the net. if you can go to which is a fairly decent online scan. you might also be able to access your regular AVG program by navigating to the program files folder on your C drive using windows explorer.
once you get it all sorted ditch the supplied virus software and install Avast- it's free and really good
Does anyone know of a cleaner to use on lappy screens and the such like that won't damage the screen, obviously, and with out leaving streaky marks?
cheers MeatyBoy, I may well give that a go.. not now though... its teatime... everything stops for tea.
Thanks again
