I found out why it was running so slowly, my lodger was down loading Gavin and Stacey, he'd left his pc running while he was at work rolleyes
But I've washed my drive and recovered a large amount of space and now it's running beautifully.
Fab thread, thanks for everyones help, especially Gary.

Doh Well done H-x smile
Update on the lappie I was lookin at....should they be rusty inside lol....(conversation my mate should've had...) "hello is that my insurance company? can you send me a new laptop please as I have spilt something on it and dont want to bother my mate at work who fixes stuff as I know he's very busy" !!!!!
An hour wasted....lol.....oh well such is life :).....
Cheers Gary- I managed to rectify it last night with a trial and error approach, but it's an intermittent problem (dont you just love 'em) And even a standard phone, with everything else unplugged, woouldn't work at one point.
Will just cross fingers that it doesn't happen again
And if it does, hit them with a hammer :smug:

hi gary,
thanks for the reply. it's not a problem with sending the pictures. the problem is pictures that i can usually see on a web site suddenly being pixilated.
if anyone else has any ideas please let me know.
thanks!

Hi again smile...
Just humour me and try lookin at the same sites thru firefox, this will prove whether it is an IE prob or not......If it is an IE prob try this that I have just pinched from another site.....
Open up IE, and next to it open up a folder (start from "My Computer" or "My Documents") with images. Let's stick to .jpg images to keep it simple. Click and drag an image from the folder and drop it on IE. This should cause IE to display the image.
It should look like it does in PS. If it does not, then there must be some setting in IE that is wrong.
If the image looks fine in IE with this method, then the problem is with images on the web. This can be caused by some Internet Service Providers who put a "proxy server" in between you and the web, and this proxy actually recompresses images before passing them down to your computer. They call this "web acceleration" because they reduce the amount of data by drastically compressing images. This is OK for general web browsing if you have a very slow connection. But for photographers like us it sucks.
Hope this helps Gary xxx

Hi smile....
Can be a few reasons for this....
I need to know how you connect to the net router etc....or wired....or adsl....or cable..... :)
Wireless networks can be the most problematic....for instance my laptop worked great with my router for 2 years or so....we introduced a new laptop to the router and my old laptop wouldn't connect....turned out the wireless card in my old laptop needed the latest version of their software to work and has never failed since....
Both work great now....
Cheers Gary xxx
Not sure if you can help, but would be v. grateful if you can biggrin
All has been working fine, Googling my head off for years I have been with no problem. Then got up one morning and Google decided (or daughter has pressed some unknown button mad ) and I get 'sponsored links' down the left hand side when I do a search, like this...
Hi smile ..
Quick question missy...what screen res are you runnin as you should not need to scroll left and right....if you have a 17" screen you should be on 1024*768...normally....this would stop the need to scroll left and right or it should....
Sadly sponsored links are the norm now on google....they come up on the right hand side normally tho....
I see you use Internet explorer.....I do keep harping on about Firefox on this thread but it is far better :)
Also if you do use Firefox there are several free extensions you can get for it (well there's loads actually) and if you are determined to bomb the adds you can get one called "adblock"...am goin to try this on mine tomorrow :) no time now am cooking dinner :)...

Hi :)...
I have been using it for years now and running it along side internet explorer....Firefox is faster and far more reliable in my opinion anyway....but its upto the user...most people do like it tho....thats why they have got something like 50-60% of the web using it...try it :)....if you don't like it blame me :)....there are countless add ons and skins for it as well if thats your thing....read somewhere that it is far more secure than IE as well....Its the speed I like....:)

Fanny- I started using Firefox a couple of years ago on RPM's recommendation. When we got the PC back, I used IE for a couple of days & it drove me nuts!
Once you've tried Firefox you'll see just how UN user friendly IE actually is
Wooooooooohoooooooooo!!! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
Lots of clunking, but I've downloaded Firefox - and no more Sponsored links down the left hand side!!
Trouble is tho........ this little box I'm typing in now is a tad wider, and now has a scroll bar at the bottom confused Never used to, all the typing fitted into a non scrolly narrower box dunno
Thanks Gary - appreciate that kiss Can give my well earned scrolly finger a well earned rest!! cool (providing I don't do any more posts and have to scroll this little box :undecided: )

BLuddy ell     My typings gone all bold
Is my typing all bold to everyone else, or is it just me seeing my own posts all dark and big n stuff
Now my typings back to normal (excluding that one post). What happened :scared:
Whoops :uhoh: Think I've solved it :uhoh:
Think I got a bit slap happy with the black ink button and pressed 'Bold' for all my typing instead of just the Woohoo bit confused
Twerent a techy fault, just a whoopsy, no panic :uhoh:
Me and change - we do struggle :? :? :? lol Just cos I've now got a fox on my web page instead of a blue 'e', it's like starting the internet all over again rolleyes
Oh and my scolly thing has gone from the bottom of the post box here as well!! :bounce:

i gave in and downloaded firefox and its brilliant, no problems at all now, its fast and its easy to delete the history biggrin
Our pc is a little poorly... It just keeps on shutting its self down... Any ideas why??

Our pc is a little poorly... It just keeps on shutting its self down... Any ideas why??

See garys post here regarding the reasons why
It could be either your cpu fan and heatsink clogged by dirt or at worst not working or your psu failing,
Ok this can be caused by over heatin....which can be caused by the heatsink on the cpu bein full of dust....a screwdriver and a can of spray air are needed to cure this....always shut pc down before takin side off....switch off power at the wall but leave plugged in (helps to earth chassis)....DO not touch anything inside but carefully spray heatsink fins to clean them out....this is the easiest cause of shutdowns to cure....other reasons can be faulty memory sticks and voltage spikes from your home mains supply....fridges can cause this smile....Another reason for random shut downs can be a on-its-way-out power supply.....these are fitted inside the tower and can be replaced when total failure occurs for 20-30 quid :)....

Thanks kiss. Have dusted the fan and had all the inside cleaned out so will start looking at the other stuff mentioned.
