im not fussed what im called apart from love that really bugs me for some reason
Must admit I like being called Babes and Hun by my male friend I chat with on MSN but thats because I know him quite well now. cool
I DO NOT like to be called it by people who are chatting to you for the first time. It irritates me greatly and they can come across as sounding full of themselves and tosser-like.
Don't really know why there should be a difference but to me there is. confused

If the person knows me then any term of endearment is fine apart from hun or dear as I find them quite irritating.
If I don't know the person and they call me by any term of endearment it rubs me up the wrong way, it's as if they can't remember my name. confused
I'm guilty of saying/ writing it to others though and regularly call people chick or honey. Some rather more special folk get called other things.
A good friend of mine suggested we give each other pet names which we still use now. It can be cute and fun if done in the right way.
I dont mind being called babe or hun, or anything really, but i dont like it if its from someone when chatting for the first time confused
I find myself calling people honey...
but I do know what people mean about people you dont know being kind of 'hey honey' - they dont know you?!?! But, it is always a good way to save yourself in a convo when you cant remeber someones name! lol!

Let's cut the crap and get down to basics......
Basically if they are nice - they can say what they want.... babe, hun, sexy, bitch, tart...
If they are a tosser - any one single word will be annoying.

What I'm trying to say is that I have this weird suicidal tendency when someone says to me "don't you dare calling me a.." I go and call them exactly that!!

The first time I was called "duck" by a bloke in these parts I was like
I tend to call women "hun" and if I know them better then "hunnie," tho not in the sexual sense just more friendly.
Male friends are usualy called mate, or me old mucker (god knows where I first heard that one) or if very good mates then usualy "hello you old wanker, hows it hanging" lol
Who was it that used to use the phrase "ello my darlin" was it charlie drake?

In general, the way I react to a "term of endearment" really depends on the person using it. I hate being called "love", but have a customer who always calls me that and I find that kind of amusing becuase he isn't being funny with it. That is just his way with me. (want to see the faces when he calls me that in meetings though lol  ).
I get called "babe" by some people on here and I really don't mind it from them, but it would annoy me from someone I didn't know.
I tend to call people "sweetie" which kind of comes from messing about with the camp guys at the pub and is a derivation of "sweetie/darling" Abfab style, but I don't think I would use it when chatting to anyone who didn't really know me.

It always surprises me when blokes call women "love", "honey" etc. Because if I did it I would expect to be told not to be so cheeky......... or get a smack in the gob.
