Some years ago, a work colleague of mine, who was still within the definition of being "young", use to buy condoms wholesale and then bring them into work and sell them "on the quiet", except that he actually made quite a thing of it.
Most of his customers were rather shy young men, who it was suspected may not have had a use for them.
Anyway, some time later he had to have time off work because his wife was not well. It later transpired that she had had a miscarriage - indeed it transpired that the couple had been trying for their first baby for some considerable time. The condom "business", which had been a front, quickly ceased.
The shame about shame, is that people really shouldn't have to feel ashamed about things which are in no way their fault and does not make them any the worse person(s)for it - but human nature is human nature. confused

I was thinking the same thing! I'm sure there was a point to it but it seems to have been lost in the telling of the tale.

Plim no way! that was such a shame. I guess really if it hadn't been for the fact that 'the front' was in Belium at the time then we all would of been having problems. All in all absoulutely disgraceful a shambolic business indeed. Thanks for bringing it to our attention :D

Sorry but I find it an insult that you think there is shame in the way they behaved.
Unless you have been told you can't have children and everytime someone asks you when its your turn, and you have to reply never, then you can make a comment.
It sure as hell shouldn't be a shame if that is the way they dealt with the problem!

for discussion....... why do people automatically assume that others want children or when its time for them to start a family, or assume that everyone can start a family at the drop of a hat?
Would you be affronted if someone told you "it was about time you had kids" or indeed that you SHOULD have a family by now sort of thing. Have you suffered from fertility probs and felt that you couldnt share it?
Why did this couple feel shame that they couldnt have kids and couldnt admit so to friends and colleagues?
