Well apparently its xmas?? Not for me Im just not a big xmas fan at all!
Does anybody else have one like easter or valentines? Do you like the religous symbolism of it or do you think its all ridiculous consumer bullshit like me except pancake day cause I really like pancakes and its not like its the only time of the year to but the ingredients or get them and they are cheap and tbh what is the symbolism behind pancake day?? Anyhoo what does anybody else think or do you just not really give a flying fuck!?
Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Day, heralds the beginning of fasting in Lent. On this day (so the historians say) there were feasts of pancakes to use up the supplies of fat, butter and eggs... foods that were forbidden during austere Lent.
so the Shrove Tuesday site said.
My god what is happening to me
You are here to edumecate us in the ways of the erm..... lawd?? lol
Fruity,
Me neither, bah humbug.
I don't like the way that Christmas is so commercialised. Shops seem to sell Christmas trees and decorations earlier each year. I think that Christmas is mainly for the youngsters, although I am lucky in that the company I work for shuts down over Christmas HOORAY!! I am also looking forward to my Mum's Christmas turkey dinner.
I love pancakes too. Specially with maple syrup!
my two dates (because I'm greedy) are 31 May ... mine and morbius day of meeting .... 30 Jan ... (must be fecking tired had to take my ring off to check the date redface ) which is our wedding anni .. these two dates are the most special to me and yes I will make an extra effort to have fun. do something exciting.
all the other events in the year can pass without celebration as far as I'm concerned (except the kids birthdays and I do make an effort)

I completely agree with you fruity. It's all consumerist bs. The best word I heard for Christmas is 'Consumermas'. It's spot on.
It's really a holiday for kids, or for parents with kids, these days. Then again I'm not religious particularly anyway so... As a kid it was all about getting prezzies.
I don't really have any dates I particularly celebrate at the moment. But seeing as I'm just a romantic at heart if I did have any they would probably relate to a partner somehow (and seeing as I'm currently single...).
I used to love Christmas, back in the days before it lasted for three months of the year. *sigh* Right now though there's no part of the year I particularly look forward too - it's all much the same for me.
i must be the odd one out
i love christmas.....got a big family you see,its alway good
seening my family open pressie
christmas drink in the local with friends and family
a top notch meal...then only fools and horses.
more drink...and more drink,,,then playing games drunk, and then more drink
then no work next day...going watch the mighty luton play football,
pissed out my head leaving my seat to go wee every 2 mins,as so drunk.
then going work with hangover next day
how can you lot not love christmas
its the best piss up ever

erm ... try 27 family birthdays in December sad in laws who are jehovah's witnesses and the death of my beloved Nan on xmas eve ....... for starters :( :( :(

i also think alot on christmas day ,about the poor little donkey on the dusty road
Ring out those bells tonight Bethlehem Bethlehem...

Most wonderful time of the year???
Today.
Better than yesterday.
But not as good as tomorrow.
I've had cock shots from Guys Spirited
- Because they assumed Flirty Fruitcake was femme.
But she isn't.
We love Christmas here, its great,we get to spend more time together, the kids actually behave and it means you get lots of nice not to like???
Also its only two weeks after my birthday,so its a double celebration for me biggrin
I love xmas, not for the hype oranything.
Just because I get to have the full week off.
I have never ever worked over the xmas period, and do not intend to start now.
We love it because it gets the kids so excited although there is no doubt that it has become way too commercial.
We also enjoy the fact that the kids can be forced into best behaviour with the threat of Santa not coming!!!!! Come January we are kind of stuck!
Christmas means a lot of different things to different people. It's nice to spare a thought for those for whom it's just shite and there are many in that position.....think about it.
I adore xmas,i don't think that you can beat hat special moment when your taking the kids down the stair and theyre waiting with baited breath to see if santa has been, its purely magical and worth all the hard work and effort to see their little faces light up biggrin :D :D :D Have you lot forgotten what it was like to be a kid on xmas morning??
Our wedding Anniversary and the anniversary of the day we met is pretty damn special too :inlove:
But i dont think you can beat when its cold and snowing outside and your all wrapped up in each others arms(preferably under the duvet) absolute bliss :D
My kids are the ONLY kids i know that want their breakfast before their presents. confused
I have always brought them up to think about spending money wisely and that 'doing' nice things are so much better than getting presents, ie. going swimming rather than getting that crap toy in Tescos, and i think its actually worked!
Yep last year, i was really excited cos my son was 2 1/2 and being more older, understood more, but nope, he wanted his coco pops first! There was me (mum) going, hurry up, come on!!
Im not a big xmas lover (watched my mum die over xmas and NY dying on 16th Jan 1995), only that hubby and kids are off work giving us more freedom to travel, visit friends and not have to watch the clock.
Id love to go abroad, either skiing, the States or some gorg beach!!
