It does normally work by doing in the normal search window and if you can also narrow it down if you can remember which part of the forum it was in.
Alternatively, you could go into their profile and click on all posts (lets just hope it isnt one started by Jags who has one or two pages worth of posts for you to go through)

That just brings up all their posts. What I'm after is searching my thread starter.

Which is the problem I'm trying to get round.
Using myself as an example - it returns 360 pages of results
Or it can return 69 pages, but it doesn't show the posts, and if it's 37 page thread, it doesn't really help.

Don't know if this is any good, but if you know roughly when the last post was made on the thread you can search through the cafe pages, using the url bar at the top.

That's the second page of the cafe and the numbers go up in multiples of 40. Just edit the number until you come to the page you need
