i can see ur point and sometimes it appears that city dwellers have no need for 4 wheel drive......but many have other interests such as sailing where it is usefull it have an off road vehicle.......why should they then have to shell out on another car just for everyday use. i think the main point it not to judge people imediatley and to try to understand the reasons why they drive the car they.......ok u might see mums doing the school run in a 4 wheel drive.......but have u ever stopped to ask what they use it for at weekends? it may turn out that they have a need or it!
I'm not a city dweller, I work out in the sticks, live near the sticks and even the sticks have roads. There are not many properties where a 4 x 4 is essential, if it is, then quite often a tractor is used.
We go off with my brother n family, equipped with a speed boat, donut, skis, bbq and hamper - towed by a mondeo!!! Things like sailing, and correct me if I'm wrong, don't need a 4 x 4 to tow it - if it's that big, then the boat is usually kept at some kind of mooring.
Don't get me wrong - the 4 x 4 is an essential piece of equipment for some people, but for many people it isn't, many people have no concept of the meatiness of the car and how ridiculous they look when the milk float overtakes em, they reach the school and out hops one child!!! and will never be used for the purpose it's built ......... hence my earlier statement......
