I've done a search on this and can't find a previous post related to it...... Can anyone give me an idea of what this means? What infringements are likely to result in banning? If people are banned, why are their profiles still visible? Can banned members still be contacted? If so, would you contact a banned member? Just asking as a few banned profiles have come up during our searches.....
firstly, welcome to the forum juicy-pair. People are banned if they have not followed the AUP. You can't contact them through this site if these members are banned. If you have their personnel details though, then you can contact them. Not sure if I've answered all your questions - I'm rather hungover today!!
The reason for the banning of any member is only for discussion between said member and admin.. It may be a temp ban it may be a permanent one Guess you'll just have to wait and see ;-)
So, that their profile is still visible, then I'll have to assume it's a temporary ban. SH wouldn't keep up profiles of permanently banned people I'm guessing? This 'temporary ban' thing may also explain why they can still log in, though if their use of this site is restricted, why would they bother? (maybe to check if they are unbanned yet?) Anyway, it's probably a good idea to weed out those with the inability to understand basic instructions. If they can't understand the AUP then they'll also probably have trouble understanding the phrase "keep your finger out of me bum" too! Thanks for your replies.

As the subject of banned members has been brought up.. when a member is banned are they given a reason or do they have to contact admin for a reason? have always wondered and never asked
ive known people request to be banned for a spell too... perhaps to enable them to have an enforced break from the site. by *spell* I mean period of time, not that they have been banned for practicing magic white black McKenna or otherwise lp

No, temporary bans wouldn't explain why profiles are still visible - you can still view profiles of permanently banned members. They can't log in though, I don't think. A ban is a ban and means they can't access the site using their login. Anyone can look without being logged in though.
Sometimes we add permanent bans because have added temp ones and the offender continues to break the AUP. We follow guidelines so we all place the correct length ban, starting from just 24 hours going to permament. When a member is given a ban of any sort, an OP, Mod or Admin always write a reason that the user will see when they attempt to log in. A banned member can either sit out a ban or they could contact admin through a support ticket, which they can access as a banned member, and hopefully get a clear understanding of the rules. Accounts are left because a permanent ban, might not be permanent if indeed a person makes contact and agrees to stick to site rules. Most people deserve a second chance, it is up to the member if they take that chance or not I'm just waffling now aren't I
i always thought, that even permanent bans , the profiles left because if deleted, and the banned profile was of someone who had causedd trouble etc etc someone else (who may unknowinly pick a previously banned name) may get trouble for having that name if that makes any sense at all
So can someone tell me how a currently banned member is in this forum right at this very moment?? In edit: Make that 2!! Are the gremlins playing again??

You can still sign in and read the forums but not pms, go in chat etc etc etc That would answer it then. Shame really, miss reading their posts Sometimes, certain things are peoples own choices in the paths they take.....but know where your coming from xx
You keep waffling hun - there's nothing wrong with your waffles Nor her bacon Or her baps Or indeed her bacon baps.... Especially for brekky ;-) :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: :lol2: Thanks Steve
Something else I always wondered about. What about forum users online and when you click on their names to per er...look at their profiles Im told, 'member not in database'. They are quite clearly members of the site and their screen names quite clearly appear on the forum list but according to that, they arent members here Is it me, or is all very confusing??

Thought it was just me, but I get this a lot too. The most annoying is when you get it on the "Members who may interest you" bit on your home page. :? :? :?
