Reminds me of the tale my uncle Percival told me of his days in darkest Africa on safari with my late aunt Agatha. One day they'd gone out to bag a lion and Percy, not being a very good shot, had used up all but one bullet without hitting a thing. With his last shot he finally hit a lion, but only just - it seems the bullet just nicked the lion's ear, causing the animal some considerable annoyance. The lion looked up and located the couple and began walking purposefully towards them.
"Oh dear, Dear, he looks rather angry." said Agatha as the approaching animal gathered pace, "Shoot him again."
"I can't, Dear. No more ammo." And the lion, evidently sensing their sudden fear and encouraged by it, broke into a trot. "I think we'd best show him a clean pair of heels, Dear" Percy suggested.
"Alright, Dear" said Agatha, "but I really don't think we stand much of a chance. We're very far from cover, he'll catch us for certain."
"Give me your shoes." Said Percy.
"I beg your pardon?"
"Your shoes. Reeboks aren't they?"
"Oh you silly man," said Agatha, handing over the shoes with an indulgent smile, "they're good running shoes, but they won't improve your chances against the lion." Nevertheless she started running for the distant trees.
Percy quickly laced up the trainers and stood up, just as the lion, now only seconds away, broke into a full gallop.
"Improve my chances against the lion?" said Percy as he ran past his wife. "I'm not trying to outrun him, I just have to run faster than you."
