It's making my life a misery.
Had it since December, it used to be frequent bouts, now it's all the time.
I've been tested - twice - and that's definitely what it is, I've had all the Canestan combinations, the flucanzole tablets, acidophillus, and I'm coming to the end of a month's course of Ketocanazole(Nizoral)and I've still got it.
My doctor can't understand why I've still got it, and sometimes I feel like screaming with it.
Anyway -
my question is this - has anyone tried anything from the "alternative" range of medicines/treatments, that has worked? Not sure if we're allowed to say on here, so maybe PM me?
Can't be of much help but wanted to send you some hugs :therethere: kiss cos I know how horrid thrush is.
My doc did tell me to avoid lying in the bath for any length of time as it can change the PH balance in ya bits!!
Sweetie passionkiss
Never had it, so can't help ........... but hope it buggers off soon kiss
Sam xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I have heard natural yogurt is good!
I have never had it myself so don't know if this will work, but good luck!

You've not by any chance been on antibiotics during this time have you?
Reason I ask is that some people (me included) are prone to getting thrush when they are on antibiotics. Dunno why, but always happens.
:therethere: Hope it gets sorted.

Poor you Cherry kiss I know how horrid it is.
I've not tried any of the alternative treatment but I used to get it really badly. What I did was to stop having baths, stop using any form of soap or anything at all down there, not wearing thongs apart from on the odd occasion, wearing cotton knickers and taking them off as soon as I come in from work and putting on loose cotton pj's.
I'm guessing that this is al stuff you've tried already but just though it was worth saying it again. The other thing to look out for is for if it is worse at certain times in your cycle and to keep an eye on that. I'm by no means an expert but have you also looked at what you eat and when it gets worse etc just incase this is a cause? dunno
Sorry I can't be more help but hope you get it sorted and lots of  passionkiss  for you.
ive heard drinking a lot of cranberry juice on a regular basis is good ! wink
hey cherry
ive only ever had it when i was preggers but i found two things worked
yogurt (just make sure the cat aint about at night ) redface
of soda in ur bath and when ur washing
hope it works xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx wink
Yeah - I had a friend (no, really biggrin ) who used to fill a tampon applicator with live yoghurt and insert the yoghurt. Apparently it was good - and cooling!
If it's oral not vaginal I guess you could just eat it with a spoon!!
Get well soon kiss
The only thing from your replies that I haven't though about before, is the stress factor. I left my job and started working for myself in November last year, and it's been difficult, but how I would fix thus, I have no idea wink
Thanks everyone for taking the time to post and pm me, much appreciated, and if anyone else has tried anything herbal, or maybe Chinese medicine? I'm all ears

Reason I ask is that some people (me included) are prone to getting thrush when they are on antibiotics. Dunno why, but always happens.

Most antibiotics prescribed these days are what are called "broad spectrum" (efficient because the doctor doesn't need to know the precise bacteria that is causing the problem) which basically nuke most forms of bacteria in your system, even some of the good ones. When this happens the bacteria levels drop and makes room for the fungal spores which cause thrush.
Like you ain't already going to have all this info rolleyes Mrs Lost suggested it would be good to do anyways.....
The overgrowth of the fungi Candida Albicans is responsible for the onset of Thrush, which is also know as Yeast Infection or Candidiasis. Thrush is not a serious disease but it can cause great discomfort for its sufferer. The best thing you can do then you think you have thrush is to see a doctor immediately. There are also many over the counter medicines that are effective in treating thrush.
But aside from seeing a doctor and using over the counter medications, there are many things you can do at home to treat thrush.
1. The first thing you should do at the onset o thrush is to clean the affected area by washing it with plain water. It is not advisable to use soaps, shower gels and bath gels because these products can worsen the infection. Make sure that the affected area is always clean, cool and dry.
2. When you have thrush, avoid using lubricants and spermicidal creams. These products can make your conditions worse. You should also avoid latex condoms because latex or rubber can cause irritation.
3. Do not let synthetic fibers or materials touch the affected area as doing so could cause further irritation. You must wear clothes or undergarments made from natural fibers so as to minimize irritation.
4. Stress can trigger thrush this is why you should learn to relax and fight stress. Do not put yourself in stressful situations as much as possible and try to learn different stress-reducing techniques.
5. Make sure that your partner does not have thrush before having sex.
6. Melaleuca Oil is an effective remedy for thrush. You can buy Melaleuca Oil at alternative medicine and herb stores.
7. Aside from Melaleauca Oil, another effective natural remedy for thrush is Aloe Vera gel which can also be bought in alternative medicine and herb stores. Apply the Aloe Vera gel to the affected area.
8. Avoid oral contraceptives and broad spectrum antibiotics when you feel you are susceptible to thrush.
9. Individuals suffering from iron deficiency anemia and diabetes are more susceptible to get thrush than those not suffering from these diseases. So if you suffer from these diseases you must be doubly careful in avoiding thrush.
10. Avoid alcohol, steroids and too much sugar if you feel that you are susceptible to thrush. These substances can prohibit the growth of Candida Albicans.
11. You can also put natural yogurt to the areas affected by thrush to minimize irritation. Yoghurts have ingredients that can combat inflammation.
12. Food is one of the main triggers of thrush. Avoid dried fruits, dairy products, products with yeasts, mushrooms, pickled vegetables and fruits, monosodium glutamate and smoked fish and meat as these can trigger thrush. You can also try to follow a restricted diet for at least one month. The restricted diet can help you determine the particular foods that triggers thrush. You can then avoid these foods to avoid acquiring thrush.
13. Probiotic supplements that support friendly fungi in the gut such as acidophilus are also found to be effective in treating thrush.
14. If your thrush is persistent and does not respond to home remedies then you should begin to see a doctor. You should never ignore a persistent thrush infection. Or else it could lead to a much worse condition.
----------------------------------------
You can keep getting thrush again if your partner has it and doesn't realise, not always so obvious on males until its rally bad. So they need to be treated as well as it is continually passed onto each other.
Tight clothing, jeans etc can make it worse.
Only time I've tried Chinese medicine (for another condition) it made it worse and I ended up in hospital, so I keep well away from it now. Although I have heard good reports from others that it works for various ailments for them. I don't know anyone who has been treated for thrush tho, so I cant comment on that aspect.
Hope it clears asap for you Cherry as it can make you feel pretty miserable! kiss
Mrs Lost (via Mr Lost) gave some good info
firstly, Cherry you golden voiced angel kiss hello wave
I really do hope you find something that helps.
secondly, I'm such a bloody cave dweller that i don't have the slightest idea of wtf you're on about dunno
no ......... seriously, i thought it was a bird rolleyes
ok so I did the whole google / whikky thing and just got more n more confused.
can someone please PM me with a laymans definition, and male symptoms etc?
ta xx
Cherry I do sympathise with you. I get it quite often due to a reaction to using tampons redface
Try the age-old remedy of taking salt baths which does help ease the burning at least.
The natural yogurt remedy is one I've never tried but it is supposed to work ( I would REALLY like to know who first thought of that and wtf made them put yogurt down there in the first place? blink )
You could ask at the health shops and see if they can recommend something or find a local chinese herbalist.
Hope it clears up soon hunni. kiss

That's part of the problem as there are no symptoms if a bloke has thrush in his dick.
In full blown Michael Caine mode here, but not a lot of people know that most people have thrush spores present on their person due to the fact that you can never truly eradicate them totally. Most people catch the thrush from a surprising source, their mothers. This happens at the birth.
It only becomes a problem when the spores increase to a level whereby they cause symptoms. The broad spectrum anti-fungals like clotrimazole just nuke most of the spores, but not all unfortunately.
And if you want to know more Pete, try here
Cherrytree, are you a diabetic or have you had your blood sugars measured. Thrush is a common problem with diabetics because blood sugars are a lot higher than normal for longer periods and the bacteria thrive on sugars in the urine. If it's been around that long I would have a diabetes check, cause I know, once it's there, it's there for months :-(
heres a thought hun....my sis though she had thrush, but when it didnt respond to any medication, further investigation revealed that it was shingles
in her mary jane!!
have u been near anyone with chicken pox?
the other possible diagnosis was cellulitis
not saying thats what u have hun....but it was just a thought to maybe think about babes xxx
I was told that a drop tea tree oil on a tampon or in the bath will cure it as tea tree is anti fungal, also works on athetes foot.
I strongly suggest you get your partners to use canestan and refrain from intercourse for about 2 weeks until the infection clears up. I know thats what i was told by the doctor.

Can I say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who took the time to post on here, and/or pm me, I think I may have hit on something with one of your suggestions, and hopefully this won't be forever.
You are all fantastic! :inlove:
I hope you have found your cure - I think each person is different. I'll add my ha'p'orth anyway.
The pH of the natural fluids varies through the month and that can trigger cyclic attacks. In that case adding a thyme decoction (I love that word!!) to a bath of not-too-hot water can really help head it off.
To make the decoction (biggrin) put a good handful of fresh Thyme in a jug, pour over boiling water to cover it. Leave it to go cold and press it a bit to get plenty of 'flavour' out. It will keep a few days so you could make enough for a couple of baths - about a mug-full in each bath.
